Is it beter to face subs tords trunk or seat?

I am making a custom box because im getting another audiobahn alum 12. And I want to know if it is better to face subs tords trunk or tords seat. People say it gets better responce when faced tords trunk but i think it sounds better if its faced in . please give me some feedback.

A very high percentage of people notice a significant improvement in bass quantity with subs facing the rear.

I tried it both ways and into the trunk is the way to go. This is just my opinion, try it and see what you like best.

We just tested it last weekend, firing the subs into the trunk into the car and up. The best result were facing them into the trunk, that is how we got the best sounding bass.

Fireing into the trunk? Like mounting the sub in the rear deck and firing it down into the trunk? Or in the trunk lid firing into the trunk? Or in the wheel well fireing into the trunk? Heck, the Navy could fire a cruise missile into your trunk from the Persian Gulf. But without a better description we still won't be able to tell if it went through the front bumper to get there. I know where the most likely best location is and said so above. But let this person know where you had the best results. Give us at leat two points on the line and a direction of travel for the front fireing phase of cone movement.

Check page 2 for pics. The way they sit in the trunk in the pics is how we got the best sound out of them.

P.S. A cruise missle wouldn't reach my trunk from the persian gulf.

Just because we don't tell the Chinese that they can go that far, does not mean they can not.

I take it you have a lot of spare time on your hands to look for all this. Since when did this post turn into a cruise missle lesson. I work in a place that repairs military parts so please don't go and waste your time finding all this. I'm sure i could teach you more than you could teach me. Not flaming you for your post, but it was pointless information to post on a maxima website.

This is one of the oldest debates. Really it comes down to what you hear and your x over frequency box design and on and on.

But in generel firing into the seat or up to the rear deck USALLY will result it "tighter" bass ie less boomy, and can usally present a better sub up front sound. Then firing to the rear at the trunk lid usally produces about 3 db in most situations.

Of course this can all change with a little of this and that.

Just a 2 minute search on cnn.com

The first post had nothing to do with cruise missiles. You obviously missed the point of the analogy of "fireing into the trunk." To explain in elementary terms for our rocket scientist think of it as a vector. You need more than direction of travel to define the vector. You also need magnitude. In our situation we need one more thing to figure out where this vector is ultimately headed. We need to know where it is coming from. What shape is the sub box? What side is the sub on? What side are ports on? Where in the trunk is the sub box in relationship to something common in all trunks?

Why not try reading from the top of the page? I'm tired of reposting over and over. You seem to be the only one confused, so post a worthwhile question.
