Replaced OEM 6.5" speakers...

with Pioneer TS-D160R 6.5" REV Series speaker. I had the non-Bose system(luckily) in my Max and just swapped out all four speakers with the Pioneers and I can tell you that there's a world of difference even with the stock head unit. I recommend anyone with stockers to get these. From the 40watt Clarion stockers to the 225watt! Pioneers there's really no need to add anything else unless of course you're one of those people who really need other people outside your car to hear your music. They've also have built-in crossovers! Check 'em out!

I'm getting ready to do the same thing only I selected Polk EX365 6.5" speakers and an Alpine MRP-F320 5/4/3 amp to drive them. I installed an 8" Kicker sub in an enclosure under the rear deck some time ago. I bought 2 pairs of the EXMs for $75.00 a pair at Crutchfield and the the MRP-F320 for $178.00 shipped off eBay.

Is the stock HU unit really that good?
I have the CD/cassette HU though.....

I am planning to upgrade my system, but perhaps upgrading the speakers would be a start instead of the HU (eyeballin the Alpine 7897).

Hey, do you have pics of the 8" sub and its mounted location? I was thinking about doing the same thing cause I wanna go for the stealth approach.

Any aftermarket coaxial with a poly cone and effeciency of 92dB or better will probably sound with the stock HU. I just added 4 Infinity Reference 652i and am very happy with the results.
