2002 Maxima SE Sound System Help

I have the basic 120W 6 speaker sound system (not the Bose). My speakers sound like they are riped... sound gets distorted when i put the volume up to around 20. does the nissan waranty cover speakers?
If I replace them myself which speakers would be best using the basic head unit? any recomendations?

They should be covered by your warranty. But they may not be ripped, may just be the limitation of the deck causing distortion. Did it used to sound good over 20?

It is always best to amplify aftermarket speakers to get the best affect. They will sound better than stock of the stock deck though.

I'll let you know shortly, mastah. I'm having an Alpine MRP-F320 amp and 4 Polk EX350 speakers installed in my Maxima today. I bought the MRP-F320 off eBay for $178.00 shipped and the EX350s from Crutchfield for $160.00 shipped. I'll be running them off my OEM non-Bose head unit for now. Stay tuned.

Here's my report . . .

OH YEAH, BABY!!!

This is WAY better than the OEM sound system. Here's what I've got:

(1) OEM head unit.

(2) OEM tweeters.

(3) One (1) Rockford Fosgate RFP2408 8" Punch XLC Subwoofer in a custom-built 0.30 cu. ft. enclosure mounted under the rear deck.

(4) Rear deck cut, dynamatted and recarpeted. Child restraint holders removed.

(5) Four (4) Polk EX365 6.5" coaxial speakers.

(6) Alpine MRP-F320 5/4/3 amplifier mounted under the driver's seat.

This is obviously NOT an astronomical system. But then I didn't pay an astronomical price for it either. It's about as stealthy as I can get. (I doubt anyone's going to break into my car to steal my OEM head unit!) The system sounds tight and I'm not experiencing any noise so far.

Do you have any pics of the mounted sub? Also, did it bolt into the rear deck perfectly and how did you mount the enclosure?

I didn't do any of it. Circuit City build the enclosure, modified the rear deck, dynamatted and carpeted the deck, carpeted the enclosure and mounted it under the deck. The net result looks so clean that the guys who installed my newest equipment couldn't believe it wasn't OEM.

Wow, sounds like they did a great job. I wouldn't really expect that kind of quality craftmanship out of a large electronics chain, but that's awesome. Do you have any pictures though, or could you take any?

I'll take some pics this weekend. There's not much to see though. It just looks like a small rectangular box hanging from under the rear deck.

Shoot me an e-mail at bld522@yahoo.com and I'll send you the pics in a reply.
