the deal is cool... OT, but cool..

however, have you tried to use a 14.1 screen for GPS in the car? Its really a 2 person deal, or you need a huge bracket on the passenger side.

if you want something that really works well in the car (but not as cheap as this), check out the Sony SRX.
http://computers.cnet.com/hardware/0...20444186.html?
I *love* mine. seriously... Love it... Battery rocks, fast enough for many games and fits in the in-room safe at hotels - very important to me. I use FarStone Virtual Drive 7 for CD images, even copy protected ones..

When I dont carry the Sony, I use my Ipaq with a Holux 270 CF gps and Mapopolis Navigator.
http://www.semsons.com/holcfgpswitm.html
(btw, Semsons is *great* customer service)
Same Navtech data as the OEM nav, but not as many points of interest in the database. Voice prompted and everything. Very handy and easy to mount in the car. Any Ipaq 3700-5400 will work at about the same speed. So, if youre a bargain hound, you can find a cheap Ipaq. Some of the other brand PPCs dont have good shielding on their screens and GPS doesnt work as well..

Tim,

Do you know what models (exactly) in the 3700 model series of Ipaq will work? What type of connection is needed for the Holux antennae?

well, probably the 367x or 365x or the 376x (the last number only means if its brick and mortar or internet sales) as those have 64 meg of ram and will give you more room for maps in memory. I've seen 3765's go for $175 in like new shape.

You just need a CF jacket. the Holux is a new chipset and no external antenna is needed. it's really that good.. You dont need/want the Holux Ultra, just the regular CF Holux 270.

Tim, you got any pics of how the laptop looks hookedup in your car?

I've been trying to think of a clean way to install a laptop in mines or find a good spot to lodge it so that I can have an all in 1

- mp3 player
- movie player
- Navi System
- n play computer games

... laptops do all that, so I don't think it's worth putting in a Navi system that only does one thing.

plus you can always switch out the laptop and put in a new system as it gets old.

I would use MS Roads and Maps, or it is called something like that. It's not like a GPS where it will tell you exactly where you are all the time, but it's the next best thing.

for a PC? Copilot if you can afford it, Delorme SA 2003 if you dont want to spend as much.

Tim,

Over the weekend I purchased the Holux and won an auction for a Ipaq 3765. Do you know if the Holux is a type I or II CF? Is there a particular type of jacket I need?

I noticed in the specs that the 36xx and 37xx series have different CF types.

the Ipaq CF jacket is Type 2 so it doesnt matter. I got one for my wife's Ipaq for like $20 (used).

The memplug dual CF may seem tempting, but it's having problems with many Wifi and GPS cards, not recommended at the moment.

since youre using a PPC, look:
http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=9

Mapopolis still has an edge because its *so* stable and fast, something very important on the road.. Trust me, it sucks to have a lockup or a slow redraw and miss a turn.. However, Routis is looking VERY nice. The longtime members there seem to be giving Routis and Mapopolis equal ratings. Personally, I love Mapopolis. Not as many features or the pretty UI as the others, but it works like nothing else.

That Mapoplis Clearpath or CoPilot Live look really interesting for you guys in metro area with alot of traffic and a decent wireless connection. Would probably save you hours of commute every week.

Ahh, but it would be better placement to put in General topics so that not just 5th Gen owners could benefit from it, right?

You are the retard here. THis should actually be in the electronics section. Its here for more views. It bothers moderators? TimW IS a moderator, and if this was so inapropriate, it would have been moved already.

You dont have to repeat yourself 100 times. The first time is understood.

"Audio and Electronics" You need to do some studying before you put your foot on someones mouth.

Thats why it's still here. As Tim stated above.

Lets not let this turn into a heated argument. Thats just childish.

the deal.. look, a 5th genner started it, not a newb so he may want to share with the other 5th genners (who knows) who may not see it in the electronics section. Make no mistake, it will go there..

There are three mods here - *we are watching, we will take care of it*, I'd rather you report the post with your reason instead of using the off topic image. No reason to confront someone over something like this, not when its *somewhat* related. Now obviously if someone comes in with some Acura TL/CL post, yeah I expect you guys to rip him.. Also, if this was a spam about a computer deal, you bet your a$$ it would already be gone.
