SWI-X Interface

Does anyone have an aftermarket in a 2k2-2k3? I am going to install one with a SWI interface to keep the stock controls and I wanted to know how difficult it was to do? Please help...

funny thing...I just did my install this weekend. However I was in such a rush that I didnt' do the steering wheel remote in order to save some daylight. Doesn't look to be that bad. Just solder a few resistors and splice to a couple of wires.

and the second page of FAQs in this forum explains which wire to tap to regain the trip computer.

lol, same here. I skipped the steering wheel controler for later, cuz it was running late. Waiting for my new HU now; then I will install the SWI-X.

Re: SWI-X Interface

It is very easy. All you need to do is to tap into 2 wires with 2 resistors plus a ground. Then program PAC and your a ready to go. It is pretty simple, just read the manual carefully and make sure you use the right resistor.

So if I am reading the booklet correctly the only wires I need are the red, black and white ones on the SWI, correct? I just want to make sure otherwise I am going to have to sit here for hours with a voltmeter.

I did it in mine. You need to tap 2 wires on the car, plus power and ground. All of those get connected to the wires on the SWI-X. You'll need to insert the resistors (per the instructions) into the signal lines going to the SWI-X. It takes a little time to do, but it does work.

And for mounting... I put the entire unit up in my map light area. If you remove the map light trim (2 screws in the sunglass holder), there is a great spot on the passenger's side of the hole to put the black box. Then, just put the transmitter in the curved part of the map light area. I'll have to take some pictures soon. You'll need some extra wire to get the signals up there, but I tapped the power and ground for the sunroof module.

How did you run the wires for the controls back down to the dash?

I ran them down the passenger's side A pillar. Then behind the glove box and over to the radio.
