how does this sound

Sap people,
I'm looking for a setup with good SPL but within 700ish price range. I have a potential setup lookin around online car audio stores and want your opinions on it:
2 Diamond Audio M5102.4 - 159.00x2 (link )
JBL BP1200.1 - 275.00 (link )
Raptor BP102 bandpass enclosure - 65.00 (link )

any different suggestions would be helpful peace

First of all Diamond Audio does not Allow ANY online sales whatsoever. Second..those subs have been discontinued for 1 1/2 years now, hence the cheap price.

The amp I p[ersonally wouldnt use, but I have heard alot of good things about it, especailly for the price.

As for the box, you can build it yourself and save a few bucks, as well as the weight of the shipping for it.

O and the DA speakers (all) are not recommended to go into bandpass enclosures..

Don't use bandpass... Stick with SEALED>. you will have a much smoother 12db roll off without any artifical peaks in teh bass curvers (hence why i hate ported boxes)..

I would rather sacrifice SPL"s for decent SQL>.

UNLESS... you run a compression loaded chamber... if you know how to get your hands on a properly designed one !!

I used to have two 10" mTX.s in a compression loaded chambered box.. OH MY GOD it was crazy loud...

But now i like my 2 x Infinity Perfect 12.1's in a sealed box..

As what DON said, i heard good things about the 1200.1 amp, but it does use a lot of current.. Is it a D-class amp?>

I do not like them in any way shape or form. MA Audio is formerly Mobile Authority. They had a bad name, so they changed it to MA Audio.

What kind of system are you looking to do? If your looking for true spl to compete with, look for cheater amps #1. Orion, us amps, etc (hi-current) will do just fine. Find your res freq of your car (around 60hz) DO A PORTED BOX tuned to your res freq and burp from 45-65 hz. This setup will sound like dog meat. Will not sound good at all in the car. Will rattle windows for 5 miles but won't sound good inside. If you don't want a true spl setup, port at half your res freq, will sound good in the car, and will win a couple of shows here and there. There are no current records set with a sealed box. While tonality is good in a sealed box, a ported box done right will kill any sealed box. If you just want to compete in an spl contest, find a cheater amp (orion 250g4 or g5 will do $350ish on ebay) and get an spl sub ie orion hcca 12 for around 250 on ebay and have fun (not the new series which is produced offshore now). A lot of people want the huge spl numbers but don't want to sacrifice the sound quality of their systems. It is also possible to run 2 different bolt on ports for sq (drive around) and spl (comps etc). Don, I don't know you but you can probably agree with me.

only that you can buy them for about $69 and i personally would have more faith in realistic. at least with realistic, there is a radio shack on every corner.

Don't do eBay!! And you wanna save money? eBay is yuor best money-saving bet. I suggest you sign up; and do Paypal, too. I don't see any other way to get the system you want for $700.

Ikesound.com is good. Ebay prices, but definately a reputable dealer. They are not authorized, but I can basically buy 2 of my kicker subs for the same price as one local.

Ikesound is just a warehouse that sells everything at wholesale prices, almost like me I have only dealt with them once. Not a bad setup, they are known around here.

First you are in a difficult position to get a decent SPL setup with $700. But I hear ya, I was in the same boat back in High School.

What you can do is look into 2 12" Alpine Type-R, and a JL 500/1 amp.
Type R's are around $130 each and the JL amp should be around $450., so this should be right up your alley.

Once again I only suggest this with the budget given! Do you already have a good HU?

12" Kicker L7 and Rockford Fosgate bd1000. That's what I've got. It's pretty good, although sq could be better. But for the price, around $700, I don't think you could do much better. I think it is a good mix of SQ and SPL. BTW I have it in a 3.75cubic foot ported box.
