Need help with Stock Sound System!

Well, my new 2002 Bose with 6 CD is totally weak compared to my Bose in the '98. What a disappointment. I'd like to keep the stock system because it is way expensive to replace. A guy at a local shop said to just add a 300 watt amp and sub, and overall that would increase the tunage to my satisfaction. But his price is HIGH,and I'm not looking for bass to be heard around the world, just doubling the volume! However this might be my only option.

Does anyone have experience in keeping the stock system and finding a way to dramatically increase volume without costing an arm and a leg?

Adding a subwoofer may not be what your looking for. It will be louder in the bass dept. But it's not really going to make it over-all louder than it already is, except the bass. A amplified Bazooka would sound good.
Don't get me wrong, adding a sub would give your system more depth. But if loud is what your looking for, I don't think there's another way around it. You'll need to add an amp and speakers.
