Anybody with a bad antenna reception after replacing their stock headunit
I replaced my factory Bose HU with a Kenwoood DPX 6020 in my 98 maxima and everything is fine but the antenna signal is lower than what it was when I had the factory HU in. If anybody could help that would be great.

I really don't know what to tell you. The FM sensitivity of that deck is 9.3 dbf, which is pretty good. I have the Kenwood X959 which has the same sensitivity and i didn't notice any difference between it or the stock deck.

Yeah I hooked everything up perfectly, but still having problems. I can still hear the radio, but when I go under bridges or sometimes radomly there will be a lot of static. Its just real annoying because I never had this problem before.

probobly not going to get as good reception before because there are two antenna's, one in window and external antenna, with most aftermarket HU's you can only hook one up... which is most likely the external antenna. if your head unit allows for you to hook into both then i would check the connections again or reset the radio ecu.

There should be a (blue?) wire coming from the wiring harness marked power ant. This needs to be connected. At least we had to on a 5th gen. when we didn't, we couldn't pick up any stations. Check the h/u wiring harness, there should be an ant wire (normally for power ant's). That's the wire i'm talking about along with obviously the ext ant.

Off topic, but are you still using the stock speakers? If so, how's the sound?

Yeah right now I still have the stock speakers in, and it sounds decent, but I have a pair of boston acoustic 6.5, memphis audio components, solobaric L7 12 inch, and kicker amp in my room waiting to be installed. i bought the antenna adapter and hooked up the blue wire, but still get static once in awhile. The radio is clear most of the time, except when I'm in a garage or something. Do you know how to keep the HU from dimming when you turn your headlights on. If so let me know

I'm looking at the wiring diagram, and there is an orange wire labeled for illumination, but i can't remember if I even used it or not...off the top, i think you would have to hook it straight to the battery, since all the dash lights dim with the headlights. Good luck.

The Dim wire has nohign to do with reception, thats just so when you turn on teh headlights or interior lights, the radio gets dimmer, same process that happens to the interior clock. BTW, I also have reception problems sometimes, I have a Pioneer DEH-P9200r, and I can still hear the music, but sometimes staticy.

yeah I can't hear anything from the radio either. I'll try hooking up that blue wire and see if it helps. I didn't install the thing so I don't know if it is or not. I know I got the antennae adaptor so I know that is hooked up, but still no radio.

I asked a car audio guy and he says if you have titanium tints on the rear window it messes up the reception becuase the tint has metals in it... anyone know if this is true? my 5th gen has awful reception after my HU replacement.

I have the same problem. Stations that used to come in before with my bose no longer come in clearly. I can hear them but theres a noticeably static at all times, and sometimes it gets worse. I am using a alpine 7894 HU and a antenna wiring adapter from circuit city. Maybe the problem is that the adapter is ****ty and of low quality? I have tints also on my rear window, but what sort of tints have titanium in them?

I finally fixed my problem with the bad reception. I found out that the power antenna wasn't going up after I installed my HU because the radio's harness only had a remote wire to send power to your amp (usually Blue wire), but the car's harness had a remote wire and a power antenna wire (which was a lighter blue color) that I didn't know what to hook it up to. So I connected the remote wire and power antenna wire from the car's harness and then connected both of those to the remote wire from the HU, now my power antenna goes up when the radio is on and it cleared up my reception problem. I just got my windows tinted to with a metal film in the tint but didn't have any problems with the reception. Hope that helps you guys out.
