I'm making my mounting brackets for 6.75"s up front and I wanted to know who all has done this. I already have an idea and have traced the OEM plastic piece that mounts to the door. Then I was planning on using a few more layers of wood to get the correct depth for my speakers. I need a total of 1.5" of wood height and I don't forsee any problems with this. I'm thinking of using 1/4" or 3/4" plywood and good old Elmer's wood glue. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments about my ideas. I just want to make sure I'm not making a huge mistake anywhere and waste a bunch of wood. Thanks in advance for all your help.

Re: please...

Take it easy on yourself a bangin system doesn't allways mean the biggest speakers. Why do all that work when 4 inch speakers fit right in with some fiberglass and Resin. Thats what I did and It bangs. I put pioneer 4s and sealed it with fiberglass and it sounds incredible with the stock bose cabanet.

been there, done that...

I already had 4x6"s up front and there was and still is zero midbass. My cheap *** 6.5"s in the back have decent midbass, so I'm going with 6.75"s all around. If I don't like the sound, the store I bought them from has a 30-day return policy. Oh, and as an update, I used 3/4" wood for the mounts and it was a pain in the ***. I had to chisel out a 3/8" channel along the wood in order for the door to fit correctly over it. Hopefully my speakers will come in by Friday so I can get everything hooked up!

I missed your first post

definately hold out for 6.5s. i used 1/4 plywood for the bottom plate, and 3/4 mdf for the ring. 1" will work out with *most speakers*. I set the mdf at an angle with two screws, used fiberglass and bondo to reinforce and fill ( and remove screws. with the screws I was able to image a little better and get a real exact fit. the bondo and glass was a real pia.

it would be a good idea to seal the bottom plate to the door with some silicone sealant

1/2" mounting plate with a 1/2" mounting ring for the speaker should also work well. What are the depth of your replacement speakers? I've fit speakers up to 3" depth in my Max with no problems.
