Now I know on a brand new car you have to take it easy for the first 1k miles....

Someone told me there is a break-in period for a subwoofer too....is this true? And what does it consist of?

p.s. I just put my order in for 1 12" JL W7....can't wait to get it

The only speakers that I know that require a break-in period, are Kicker subs. Those need to be broken in for like two weeks. I don't know about the JL though.

I think to break it in, your supposed to play the sub at medium volume, for like two weeks. Or bench play the sub for 8hrs straight.

All cone drivers will benefit from break-in. You can follow directions or just listen to music and over time they will be broken in.

if you have access to a standalone amp and power supply in school/at work/at home you can leave it hooked up and bumpin for 8 hours at a moderate volume to break it in.

Definitely break in your subs. The spider(s) and surround are pretty stiff from the factory and you want to break them in nice and gently.

Yeah, when there was a stereo shop nextdoor at work I heard them say several times a sub will get louder like a week later after it breaks in.
