Antenna problem after HU install

I had the Pioneer Deh-9300 installed, and now whether I listen to radio or CD, the antenna stays up. If the car is turned off, or the HU removed, the antenna goes down. I want the antenna to stay down while I listen to cd's. Any suggestions? Also, I am not getting as good of reception as I did with the Bose HU. I had a new antenna harness installed on the car. What could be my problem? Thanks, all. Also, please recommend speakers to put in the car. I was thinking Infinity reference 652.5i. I have a JL 500.1 amp pushing 2 JL 12w3's. Thanks!
Matt

simple fix, or no fix....

the radio should have two blue wires coming off the back of it. one is for your "amp remote", the other is the "power ant". I believe the remote wire is blue w/ a white stripe and the antenna wire is just blue. The installer just hooked up the power antenna to the remote wire. If you switch it over to the other wire, it should fix the problem. If the radio only has one blue, your probably stuck that way. I doubt that is the issue though.

I think ERTY67's first response is correct. I have the DEH-7400 and it only has remote amp out and no antenna wire.

One of my friend has a Pioneer Premier 9000 series (not sure of the exact model #) in his '96 Max and he had to install a switch so that the antenna could go up and down as he liked. It does not go down on its own when he uses the CD player. I don't know whether that would be the case for all their models.

some radios brands have both and others only have one. it sounds like pioneers only have one. I dug out an old poineer of mine and that one also has only one blue wire too.

What do you think about the Infinity reference 652.5i as a front and back speaker setup? What other suggestions?

Hey the first reply was a mistake....The solid blue is a constant 12v for the amp. The blue/white is for the antenna. You could aslo hook it up to a 12v accessory and bypass the radio totally, this way the antenna will stay up when the car is on no matter what. Good luck.

Pioneers are nice, who cares if the antenna stays up. If its that big of a deal to you... shave it off and run an antenna like the benz or VW has.

What I meant was that pioneer did a mickey mouse job in designing their input and output wires. If they took alittle time worrying about the antenna dilemma, this type of situation would not have happened. Why does the antenna go up when playing the cd player? To increase the S/N maybe or maybe it increases the power output to each speaker . So basically, I am saying that it is not efficient and is poorly designed.

naa....all decks used to be that way. I think pioneer just decided to worry about other things like lcd displays and HUs that play DVDs. seriously, what's the big deal with the antenna staying up? I'd say it's better because it is less wear on the antenna.

I agree with whoever said that the Pioneer only has one output lead for both antenna timer and auxiliary amplifier -- you just daisy chain them if you need both. I also agree that you need to separately switch the antenna to go up and down independently of the power on/off switch of the Head Unit. Pioneer is into sound, not looks. After paying for two new up/down antenna shafts, I gave up and installed a cute rigid one long before I bought the Pioneer. If you use the Maxima wiring harness you may be able to run your new amplifier off the Bose amplifier relay and existing amplifier input power leads.

Actually quite the opposite for the most part, Pioneer basis most of their sales on appearance. Hogher lines are better for SQ, but still not their main priority.

For a real SQ headunit you would be looking into Eclipse, Nakamichi, etc..
