Securing Sub Box and Amp
I have 2 old *** Rockford Fosgate (series I) 10"s in an MTX ported enclosure, and I want to secure the box to the trunk. However my spare tire cover is warped. I was wondering if anyone out there has installed a replacement spare tire cover to replace that weak crap that comes factory. What did you use and what were the dimensions? I was thinking of using 1/4" plexi glass for a custom appearance. You know with neons and stuff. Placing gray carpeted plywood over the tire to hide it. Then having my amp under the plexi glass. Of course I'm going to drill ventilation holes so my amp can suck in some air to stay cool. Or maybe just doing a square cutout and have my amp sit with the plexi glass flush with the top. Does this sound like a feasible idea or should I try something else? Oh yeah, one more thing. I'm planning on replacing my worn out subs. I have a Kenwood Excelon KAC-PS201t Amp. Right now I'm running it 2 channel 75x2. I get plenty of bump for that amount of wattage. What subs would you recommend getting?
no clue on the plexiglass, but...
The recommended sub question surfaces every couple weeks or so and many people have different opinions. A lot, and I mean a lot of people go with JL Audio subs and they are proven performers on the SPL circuits and provide enough thump to suit most people's taste. But then someone, like the guy from Ohio State (sorry, I'm too lazy to look up your name), will recommend Alumapro's. Then someone else will talk about Boston Accoustics. Then Infinity Kappa's get thrown into the mix. Eventually someone mentions Cervin-Vega Strokers and gets flamed for it. And it goes on and on. Basically, when it comes to car audio, you are the one buying it so you have to buy what sounds best to you. I personally would go with JL because they are relatively cheap and proven performers. But if you want to go with something exotic like Boston's and you have the cash, go for it. It's all a matter of taste and cash.
