Bel 985 is about the best in your price range and can be had for 150-200 on ebay.

The Valentine one, Escort Passport 8500, and Bel 985 are all among the best. The Valentine is outragously priced at around $400. The Escort is a little out of your price range at around $250, so it lookslike the 985 may be for you.

Both the bel and Passport can be hooked up to effective laser jammers but they cost as much as the detector itself. There are several radar detector test online, but some may be sponsered by certain manufacturers. Heres one -- http://www.radartest.com/DS4HEM.html but some say they are funded by Escort. Here's another -- http://www.speedzones.com/

Whateveryou do, don't buy one of the cheap department store ones. They are basically just noisemakers.

Valentine Ones are the best, but since you are on a budget you probably will have to go with the Passport 8500. I think you can get them for $250 online. Trust me, you won't regret buying either.

I got a V1....I'd say go for one. Sure, it's a bit pricey, but it's light-weight on your winshield, and the arrows makes it awesome.

The passport 8500 is a pretty good radar. I just don't like the small mount, and the heavy unit. Almost any radar would kind of work, and all radars aren't fail safe.

Got the 8500 for $260. Got a free hardwire kit with it. I said screw it, might as well go for the best or damn close to it, and so far, its saved me once already

Thats what I would do but if you are on a budget then the 8500 is the next best thing. I have owned one and it worked but I ended up upgrading to the V1. You will be happy with the 8500, just don't use or ride with anyone who uses a V1 or you will be buying one too.

Easy dude, Valentine One. It costs 400 bucks, but it is worth it with the directional arrows that show where the radar is and a bogey counter that shows how many emitters. Also I have a Bearcat BCT7 scanner which goes off like the ****ens when it detects the emissions of the radio repeaters used by police cars. With those two devices, speeding is almost too easy.

What can I say? Obsessed with traffic radar. Radar is out there, skulking (Stalking?) around, hiding in the bushes and all over. And I really get a kick out of finding it and finding it every time with my Valentine One. I find it compelling, I can’t help it. Had V1 and 8500 compared side-by-side for a month and that's why I dumped the Passport 8500 due to lack of arrows.
