Right now I have my radar detector suctioned to my windshield about 6" above the dash....

Whenever i go over bumps it shakes violently and rattles alot too..

If i were to mount the radar detector in the middle of the dash, (right above the 2 vents) about 3" back from it. flush with the dash (i would use velcro)

would this impact the quality of the signals it is receivng?

not sure on the 4th gen but that will stick out like a sore thumb for theives. see if you have room over your rear view mirror like mine:

 

I have mine just under the tint band next to the rear view mirrow. The higher you go the better.
