Dynamat on Rear View Mirror

All you bass freaks who compain that the rear view mirror vibrates too much, has anyone tried putting some Dynamat on it for dampening? I suppose you could put it on the glass side and polish it up really well, but then the auto-dim feature wouldn't work. But seriously, I think a few pieces added to the windshield side of the mirror, being careful not to cover the light sensor, with the aluminum painted the black to match the mirror would work nicely. I suppose you could get really creative and add a textured finish to the aluminum beforehand to match that on the mirror. What do you think?

What has been tried in the past is to open the mirror and use lead foil tape to add mass to the mirror. The added mass lowers the resonant frequency and decreases overall movement. The downfall is that the added weight is too much for the pivot point of the mirror. So it can creep down on it's own without heavy bass. Therefore a complete system would incorporate a heavy duty pivot for the mirror. That in itself may be able to solve the problem.

you can always loc-tite the screw that clamps on the pivot so it wont budge once its tightened. tension is adjustable you know

There is a limit to the torque you may apply before it breaks.

Real SPL cars don't need no stinkin mirror!!! There is no fix because it is the roof and front window that are moving so much. Picture jumping up and down and not having your ba!!s move very much.

Put on a speedo or wear a cup, duh. Almost any resonance may be attenuated to some degree. But there is a point of diminishing returns. If it were a strictly SPL vehicle not haveing the mirror would be fine. In that case it wouldn't need tags either. But I don't think that was the point of the question.

how about removing the headliner and stick some heavy perminant magnets under the roof around the mirror mount to dampen the resonance freq?

My preference is to sand down the area and add a couple layers of fiberglass. Add some core material and anther layer of glass. End up haveing the area about 10-20 times thicker than it was originally, and about 2X as heavy. The question is how long will it take for the resin to crack off with variations in temperature. Of course you could use a resin that is somewhat flexible to conquer that problem.
