ED blown voice coil

my friend bles his 12" ED sub's voice coils with his jbl600.1 i dont remember which model it iwas but he called them and they are "out of town" till july 7th. are they not a reputable company? will he get a free sub from them? if not hes looking into an mtx8000 or alpine type r. which has more spl and can handle the amp? he only wants to buy from circuit city because he wants a real guarantee on them. thanks.

ED will replace any defective subs. i highly doubt he blew the coils with his jbl, maybe with a bad install or one of the other big mistakes people have been making is the problem. go to the soundillusions forum and ask around, even if ED is closed, ben still checks the forums and posts quite often in the ED section.

you can blow the coil on any sub with a 50w amp if you're stupid enough to turn the gain all the way up on it.. it's not power that kills them- it's distortion. if he's blowing subs, then he needs to learn to turn it down...

most places I've seen will warranty the sub ONCE for a fried voice coil, but after that you get to start shelling out cash. I've got several speakers of all sizes here at the house that I've blown due to poor signals and not a single one of them was covered under warranty.

From what ive read "Elemental Designs" is a great company to work with. Im sure once they are back they wont have a problem replacing it.
