I have BOSE, so I know it's suppose to be 4x6's up front...And I am on the last leg oof my install with only fronts left (right front left now) I take off the door, and take out that pod from BOSE and that speaker is a 3-4 inch round and there is no way to stick a 4x6 in the pod or right into the door. I had to take out the amp/speaker and then take a jigsaw and gut out everything to drop the 4x6 in the top of the pod. Then I screwed screws right into the plastic...To route the new wires I brought them up through the square at the bottom, then into the pod through the front gap then screwed ecverything back into the door. If I knew I was gonna have to custom it all I woudl have started with bigger speakers to begin with, but after i had the door off and pod out and everything I wasn't returning it all, buyign new speakers, ect. Oh well...That was just like how someone told me I had to take out my backseat to put in the rear speakers. now THAT was a waste of time.

oh yea, howd the DIY installation go? Well you do kinda have to take off the rear seat to get the rear deck out to get the rear speakers out, right?

You only have to remove the rear seat if you have the Non-Bose system.

back seat

DOESN'T have to come out with 3rd gen bose...ButmI guess if I ever have to take out the backseat for some reason (never) I'll know how to now. The DIY went fine, easy but takes LOTS of time (to me). I only have one front speaker left and i'm done. I havent had a day where I have had the urge to be really annoyed and waste a lot of time yet

I don't know why they set the fronts up the way they did but I just had mine replaced with JL XTR 6.5's and my local dealer just took the whole pod out, not sure how they're mounted in there now but they sure are sweet.
