Possible 3rd Gen Rear Speaker Rattle cause (maybe 4th gen too)
Although I currently own a 4th Gen Maxima, I used to own a 3rd Gen Maxima and had an annoying problem that occasionally, if some songs would play on my Bose stereo, I would get a rattle from the rear speakers. I thought that my speakers were going bad at the time, but after I removed the rear speakers, I found out that there were hardened dust ***** (essentially small rocks) that would dance on top of the speaker cone, causing the perceived "rattling" noise. The dust could have been due to the very dusty environment that the car was in. Subsequently after clearing out the objects, the noise was gone. Just something to check before you junk your Bose speakers (or get a OEM refurb unit (rear speaker/amplifier combo) for $85), call Clarion's customer service at 1-800-347-8667, which makes Bose)
I thought I'd pass this information along.
