My Maxima comes with a 4-speaker setup stock. Would a pair of tweeters installed at the front door (like the GLE's) give any improvements towards the sound quality? What is a good brand for the tweeters?

my 96se came with a $hitty tape deck and 4 speakers as well. I installed Eclipse 6.5 components in the front and in the rear. But iam using a new Eclipse deck and Kicker 4channel to power them. Its a night and day difference with adding tweeters. I custom mounted mine right near the door handles on the panels. Look stock to me, but i get compliments on them all the time. If you need just tweeters go for Kicker ND13's they are about $70-80 and can handle lots of power. If not go for Blaupunkt or Pioneer they both make excelent tweeters as well.

You can probably get away with adding 8 Ohm or 6 Ohm tweeters onto the factory system. Just be sure to add 5 uF non-polar or bi-polar capacitor inline with the tweeter on the + speaker wire feeding it. This will give you a 3kHz to 4 kHz (depends on tweeter Ohm rating) high pass inline with the tweeter to prevent bass transients from entering it.

You could go with a Vifa or ScanSpeak tweeter and the cap from Madisound http://www.madisound.com to do the job nicely.

I had the six speaker factory setup in my 95. I replaced it with Pioneer 6.5 coaxials in the rear, Pioneer 6.5 mibass in the front door, and Pioneer TS-22 dome tweeters behind the stock location on the A-pillars.

To be honest I have only replaced 3 tweets in my home polk speaker-RTA15TL. Despite that I don't blame polk as my original amp had a defect - 1kwatt surge at power on. I like polk, haven't heard enough of kick to give an opinion, but there are at least 10 brands as good or better. So, emphasize the others by listening to as many as you can. ie, don't focus on just 2 or three brands.
