Between the 2 Focal, although the JL's are nice.
www.zalytron.com has Focals for $129 a set. I used them once for a friends car and they sounded really sweet, although I still think the tweets are a bit bright for my taste.

site looks confusing. lol JL components bottom out too easy on rap.. I was jamming to DMX "get it on the floor" (brought the cd in) and it bottomed out bad on the JL but focals sounded great. Not too much base.. just freaking loud!

Focal is the Gucci and Versace of audio. Its for true ballers only. It is the best ou there. I have heard them pushed hard by a lot of wattage , and they are awesome ! I have had the bes Kappas and BA's and MB quarts before..... Go Focals !

The best? I think that would lay in the opinions of others. Definately a higher line, but your leaving out Boston,Diamond,Rainbow,Dyn,etc...

I have been pretty pleased with my Focals. They are the lower line, but they use the same tweeter as the Utopia's and Polykevlars. I listen to a lot of metal, so they dont disappoint, they have for me, the right balance, of not being to bright, and also having pretty good midbass.

Utopia uses a different tweeter, not the TN45 like the kevlar line does. Good speakers but I would really like to audition some Dynaudio and Diamnd speakers one of these days. Too bad all the shops around me only carry Quart and assorted crap.

lets not forget OZ Audio components and Adire Audio Koda components. They along with Image Dynamics HLCDs are the best in my opinion and yet priced much better than the French speakers

I have Focal coaxials in front and rear doors. Keeping in mind that they ARE indeed coaxials, they are the best sounding coaxs I have ever heard. 165HCs in the front and 130HCs in the back.

Extremely musical and I would go as far as saying that they sound better than many lower to mid-level components. In fact, I did some side-by-side comparisons between those and Focal's cheapest components (which consequently were more $$ than the coaxs) and the coaxs sounded better...even the retailer agreed.

It's reassuring to see that Focal is getting this much press, I wasnt sure when I bought them, but I see they are reasonably respected

For the most part, as far as automotive speakers are concerned, you get what you pay for. The difference "to me" between a low level and a mid level speaker is very evident. Same with the difference between a mid level and a high level one. Focal makes low, mid, and high end. I would say the difference is VERY audible...but I have extremely critical ears and can tell the difference. Some can't.

The real question is.......how do you pronounce "Focal". Is it Foe-cal, or Foe-kul?

i got the focal utopia 3 ways in the front and 2 ways in the rear, i've had these for a while and are more than happy with them.. tho i wouldn't mind trying out some rainbow refference as i've heard that they are even better.. then again i wanna try to throw in some adiom TLR tweets which is also part of the focal utopia line up.

The only amp I would really recommend over the JL is an X-series Xtant. Much cleaner and more upgradeable, and twice the price. The $ is up to you.
