Questions on upgrading Factory Alarm

I want to upgrade my OEM alarm with a shock and glass sensor. I did a search and found the instructions ->

http://www.vqpower.com/v2/modules.p...showpage&pid=13

but I am wondering if anyone knowns if this combo shock/glass sensor will work.

AU-85TA DUAL ZONE AIR RESONANCE SHOCK

If not, will these separate items work?

AU-82 PIEZO CRYSTAL SHOCK SENSOR

AU-80 GLASS BREAKAGE SENSOR

Also, what is a good number of shock/glass sensors I should add to the OEM alarm? I was thinking 1 glass sensor and 3 shock sensors. If I do end up using multiple sensors 2+, does the diode need to be added to all of the input wires for all sensors after the 1st sensor? I know I should just dump the OEM alarm and go after market but I don't have the cash right now and want some decent protection for as little money as possible. Thanks for the help.

First, you've put this in the wrong forum...but thats is besides the point.

You only need to add one shock sensor..unless you plan on running the wires everywhere in your car, which is not advisable. You can adjust the sensitivty on the sensor if you're that paranoid about protecting the max. I didn't click on the links, but as long as the sensors have the send wire like they should, you should have no problems

Sorry, about posting to wrong group...I'm still new so please forgive the newbie mistakes. Didn't know/realize that the sensitivity setting would compensate for the need for multiple units. Do you know if the combo unit will work? Or should I just go for seperate units? Thanks again for your help nupe500.

Thanks Image...this forums has been great and has tons of useful information. Also, does anyone known what direction I should connect the diode to the sensor? What I mean is does the anode end point towards the sensor or does the cathode end point towards the sensor? Thanks again for the help.

meanbean,

man no problem at all...here's what u do...get only one glass sensor and one shock sensor...obviously you already know about the diode. I could tell you what direction it goes, but that would be all too easy What you need to do is do a search on diodes and how they work...that'll answer your question. I'm not trying to be a D I C K but just trying to help you learn! If you still can't find it...lemme know and then I'll tell ya!

ok...did some reading and found out that the cathode (side with the stripe) should be connected towards the sensor and the anode (side without the stripe) should be connected to the alarm. Is this correct?

Thanks nupe500...do you think its worth adding a tilt sensor as well at the cost of $8? Thanks again for the help.

tilt sensor...what exactly does it do? your shock sensor should cover it all...once the car is touched or bumped hard enough...it'll go off...that's about as far as I would go. If you want why not put in a switch to kill the fuel pump..

The tilt sensor (mercury tilt switch) goes off if the car is tilted at an angle due to towing or some other reason. The wire used for the cut off switch is the wire that goes to the fuse for the fuel pump right? I'm assuming all you have to do is cut the wire and connect it to a SPDT switch correct? Thanks for your help.

ok, I just got a reply back from Auto Tech Security Systems that the sensors I have listed above will not work since the triggers do not pull to ground. Does anyone know where to get glass and shocks sensors that will work on the 1999 Maxima OEM alarm brain?
