have an aftermarket alarm, wondering if i can change the remote...

the remote that came with my alarm only has two buttons on it. the first unlocks and locks it. if i push the second button before i push the first, it makes locks it without making the beeping noise. anyways, is there a way i can get one of those remotes that has the lock - unlock - and panic button or does that only work with stock alarms? does the remote depend on the kind of alarm you have or? i really have no idea. sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but i figured where better to ask then here. thanx for any help guys!

It will depend solely on what alarm you have. If it is a DEI (Viper, Sidewinder, Python, Hornet) You may be able to get a different remote, but what good are more buttons if they don't do anything?

it is a dei. i just don't really like the remote i have and would like the one with separate lock and unlock buttons. and i figured they were cheap enough, but don't really want to bother if it would be a pain.

I don't know if their website hasit, but they have a remote compatability chart. If you go to a dealer for the alarm that you have, they can look it up to see if there is another style remote for you. You need to get the model number off of the brain.

if you have the original installation guide from DEi then you should be able to program a new remote. Obviously it has to be a DEI remote inorder for it to possibly work.
