Help!!!! with Deciding Amps 4 Components?

I'm looking into buying Infinity Kappa CS. I read in a previous post that u will need an amp that will give atleast 100w to each speaker so there will not be any distortion at high volumes. Is this true? Also, the two amps that I was looking into were the MTX 282 (140w X 2 @ 2ohm) and the MTX 202 (100w X 2 @ 2ohm). Which one would be better?

You can have distortion with any size amp. It's in how the system is set up and largely to do with how the gains are set. Most MTX amps that are listed for 50 watts RMS with 12.5 volts will likely produce about 100 watts or more with proper power wireing. But you could probably get by with 25 watts to you components if they were set up correctly. Most of your SPL should come from the sub. Your ears aren't much good above 120 dB's anyway and it takes very little power to reach that level. Other thing is that it will be real easy to blow you rcomponents without a sub to produce most of the SPL.

I'm not familiar with the voltage? How does that work with the amp? Is that the connection to the battery?

The way I plan on setting up my system is getting Components (Infinity Kappas 6 1/2) for the fronts and keeping the rear stock for the time being including the HU. Having those components run by either the MTX 282 amp or 202 amp. Getting two 12" or 10" Audiobahn subs run by a 300watt amp by the same make as the speakers. I'll probably get two Rockford Fostgate amp kits. What would u recommend for speaker wire? Keep in mind I plan on keeping the OEM Headunit for a while until I have enough money to upgrade to either an Alpine CDA-9807 or the CDA-9815.

Car battery is about 12.5 - 12.7 volts. Alternator produces 13.8 - 14.5 volts in order to charge the battery. This is why some amps are rated at 14.4 volts, 13.8 volts, etc. Many amps produce much more power with the higher voltage. For this reason it is important to look at the voltage that an amp is tested so that you can compare different amps on the same scale. There is no reason to use the same make amp and subs. Especially on a budget.
