balance between subs and components
i have 2 rockford subs 1000 w max each powered by jl 500/1 my ? is how powerful should my components be to have good balance and sound staging thnx in advance

Depending on the type of box you have and how much bass you have i would look at about 100 watts RMS for the components. I currently have 4 Type R 12's with 2 sets of polk components. I have about 120 watts going to the components and they keep up with the amount of bass i have.

well like i said i have 2 500 rms rockfords i'm gonna have two different boxes sealed and ported to get as much frequencies as i can and i have jl 300/4 for components i might have to get an amp thats more powerful to match the subs but how powerful should the components be, thnx

I've never followed any rule & never had a problem. I overpower all my speakers anyway, and I have a sub level controller on the dash, so my music is always balanced. I have 75W going to each speaker, and 500W going to the sub. 90% of the time I barely even crack open the sub level, but there's more when I need it. And those are continuous watts, not peak. Phoenix Gold rates their amps very conservatively. Realistically, I really don't need all those 500W...I probably could get away with half that. And my main speakers get loud enough to really hurt my ears if I max out the volue.

I'm sure someone here would be able to tell you the relative efficiencies of the ported and sealed designs so you'd be able to figure out how much power you will need for the two to play at the same level
Cheers!~

Or at least you would think so!
Now I'm about to confuse myself. I did a quick calculation with Blaubox using the sub I currently run, a JL 12W6AE, in both a sealed and vented box. Sealed volume came out to about 1.3'cu and the vented about 5.1'cu. At 300w into 3ohms the output level and response curves were identical until the sealed started to roll off at about 35Hz. I did NOT expect this result. What I found very interesting was the ported box had NO frequency spike and rolled off at a much less dramatic rate.
Is Blaubox lying to me??????

well what i was gonna do is have two separate boxes for the 2 subs and one of them is gonna be ported and the other gonna be sealed to get some of both worlds so i 'll have the low freq response curve from the ported and the prolonged curve from the sealed as far as loudness i have 2 2212 1000w each so no worries about that one ,, what u guys think
