coaxials and sound staging
#3
people say Coax is better in the rear for staging because it is cheaper than putting components. Really if you care about SQ, you don't need any rear speakers. As far as saying that you have subs and coax, one has nothing to do with the other. I am not flaming.

I dunno, I have coaxials in the rear deck (cut holes), coaxials in the front, and the Time Correction setting on my Alpine set to delay the front speakers by 9ms... it's hard to tell where the sound is coming from (front or rear), but I love it that way (makes the front interior sound like it's immersed in sound... but you still have the stereo effect)
on top I have a small 200W subwoofer in the trunk... it just adds in the low-end bass the coaxials are missing (looking to upgrade it though)

You absolutetly will NOT get the same bass out of Coax as you will from subs.

You shouldn't have any highs coming from behind you for proper imaging. It is ok to use a midbass driver on the rear deck, but nothing with a tweeter.
I have 3-way components (6, 4, tweet) in my front door, with an additional midbass driver on the rear deck, and two 12's firing through the ski hole, and it sounds incredible. If you want a proper soundstage, the highs should only come from the front. Any sound higher than about 500 Hz will begin to pull your imaging off of the dash, and will be able to be localized as coming from behind you. Even your midbass from behind needs to be time corrected to ensure that it does not pull from imaging. I could go into more detail, but it is too much typing. I have sent 6 cars that I have installed systems in to IASCA world finals, and I assure you that the best cars there have no tweeters or coaxes behind the driver seat.

So you guys don't recommend having 6x9's or any other speaker that will produce vocals in the back? Just mainly subs? Just wondering why? I would imagine that you would want vocals coming from both rear and front, more of a surrounding effect? School me please....
