DEI (Viper/Clifford) Alarm + Installation Price, how much should I be paying?

I took a ride down to a local car audio/electronics shop and got a quote of 500-600$ installed for the latest Viper or Clifford alarm/remote starter combo, either the Clifford Matrix RSX 3.5 or the Viper 791.. (they're the same alarm just with a different brand name) He said it would be closer to 600 on some cars if certain things were hooked up, like the trunk popper and remote sliding doors and remote antenna. I dont have a power trunk so that option is out and obviously I don't drive a minivan so there would be no way to hook up the remote sliding door wires.

For arguments sake, let's assume the total bill comes out to 550$, Is this a good price for the unit including installation. It seems to me that if I were to buy the unit on ebay it'd cost around 240$ and installation would probably take at least 4 hours, so their price is quite reasonable. Does anyone have any thoughts on the price? Thanks

^ wow.. thats quite a good price, but unfortunatly I'm in NY. Just curious, about how long does it take you do to the installation, I wanna know if I'm getting screwed on labor charges.. The shop did mention they solder all of the connetions and it takes them longer than normal.

Buy the alarm on Ebay for about $180 and then go to Best Buy. They will install it for $175.

Unfortunatly, right now on ebay the going price is around 270$ I'd honestly rather not let best buy's expert (haha) installers work on my car. I guess I'll keep looking, my uncle is a mechanic so he knows a lot of people in various car related businesses so I really should talk to him.

Get with Don (Pearl96Max). I haven't dealt with him, yet, but all the other .orgers have nothing but GOOD things to say about him.

How is the Matrix 3.5 different from Viper 791XV other than the color of the remotes?

Email I can do it for ya. If buying "over the counter" (ebay, etc) you get no warranty. DEI reserves the right to limit their products to be sold installed Only. Ive also done at least 65+ Maxs just from the Org....

C3...I have a few friends that work at the local BBs (NY/NJ) and they bring All their installs to me. Theyve had their work done there b4 and swear to Never get it done again. This isnt an isolated incident it happened many times at different locations. BB being a multi billion dollar company doesnt make them better, actually a little slopier. I would pay extra at a Mom&Pop shop anytime over a large chain store, just for the Customer service and care they take of my car. At BB,CC,etc your just another number in the books. Not flaming, just my $.02
