I generally associate the need for a system for those who listen to rap or R&B.

As a fan of classic rock, will I benefit from installing a system?

Yee-haw.

Any listener of music benifits from upgrading your system. Classic Rock is one of the types that benefit the most from upgrading. What is different is what you look for your system to do. Where Rap and R&B fans need bigger subs for bass, a Rock listener needs speakers that handle vocal, guitar strings, and drums better. A classical listener needs a system that can handle both deep amounts of bas, plus the finese of strings and wind instruments...

Thanks...

even though I'm a fan of classic rock, I occasionally belt out some old school Metallica, Marley, Prodigy, and Moby. In that case, I would need a system that compromises all. Right?

I normally recommend to anyone who's upgrading to try to find an all in one system. After all over time peoples tastes can change, not too mention the mood you may be in a t any given moment. With your listening tastes, you may find that a good set of two way components up front, a good clean 4 channel amp, and one good sub in a sealed box, ( JL Stealthbox!) will give you all you need. A simple clean install without too much junk and equipment not only will save you money in the end, space in your trunk, but give you a much better sound.

Well, I'm not gonna dump it into the Max I have now; I'll probably wait until my next car (probably a Max) and dump $1000-1500 into it.
