Technical Question on the Aftermarket Head Unit.
Technical Question on the Aftermarket Head Unit.
After my Stock bose HU as been replaced multiple times, I have decided to go aftermarket. I have been asking around and everyone tells me that I can't just replace the HU, I have to get all new speakers also. They say that since the bose speakers are 1ohm speakers that they will eventually fry the HU. Is all this true, or can I get away with replacine just the HU.

you dont need the bose HU. Nissan-R is right, all you need is the conversion. I did it to mine last year and the HU has not fried and everything runs fine and it sounds better than with the stock HU. If you are very good at electronics you can do it yourself. They have it up at BestBuy. I they will probably install it for you too, but will charge you for it. But you can also order them online. I will try to find the link and post it for you when i get a chance. The one at best buy was like 30 dollars. I did it and it took me about an hour to an hour and a half.

Excellent, thanks for the good replies fellas. I was worried that I would have to replace everything. Can someone go into more detail about what this bose interface does. Is it just basically a preout from the HU to the speakers. Like RCA cables or something.
Alright, this it is a box which you put in between the two wiring harnesses. There is a specified INPUT and OUTPut. Then what you do is follow the wire writing. for example, you connect the left speaker negative from the headunit into th eINPUT side of the conversion. Then the harness which hooks into the OEM adapter, you would connect the Left Speaker Negative to the same one on the otherside of the adapter labeled OUTPUT. Does this make Sense to you? It does for me cause I have done a few of them. You go through and connect all the wires this way. make sure you CONNECT the preamp for amps from the headunit up or else the relay does not get power and will not turn on.
HEADUNIT HARNESS---->INPUT ON CONVERSION -----> OEM HARNESS.
Then you hook constant power etc up like a normal HU changeout. If you get the conversion from a bestbuy, i belive the company brand is something like IDE.... The box looks like something at a construction site cause it is covered with diagonal black and yellow stripes. This one is the one i use and you have left over wires. Nothing to worry about. does this help? let me kno if it doesnt or is confusing. I'll try my best to answer anyother questions you have

OH yea, listen by the driverside door. do you hear a click when you turn on or off the bose system. just curious because mine did when i had the stock HU in and still does. Its the sound of the relay getting power. It helps out for trouble shooting if you have trouble when you put it in
