Help with wiring Preouts to Bose amps!
Help with wiring Preouts to Bose amps!
After reading some of the threads about whether or not to buy the Bose adapter, i'm going to try to save some cash and cut some RCA's up and connect them from the Preouts from my Alpine deck to the speaker ins behind the dash..
What i'm wondering is: I don't know much about RCA's but are there two wires in them? So one would be the positive and one the negative? Or are RCA's just one wire. So in order to connect the Front Left RCA on my unit out to the left front speaker, i would have to cut a RCA and find two wires inside it (+ & -)? Is my thinking all off? For those who have tried it, please let me know how you connect a new deck to a BOSE system.
i'm doing it for a 98 GLE btw. Please help..

I did it last week and posted the results in another thread. ANyway, when i did it i used some cheap RCAs because i was gonna cut them and was just testing it for the first time so i didn't want to waste money on monsters. Well when i did it, I would hear a pop noise from the speakers everytime i would turn off the Alpine, turn the volume all the way down, and when i change from CD to Tuner.. I don't know if this result varies from deck to deck or maybe from the volts of the outputs (4v), but i'd be interested to know your results..

alright sure, i hope u don't mind to wait till monday or tuesday... i intend to do it then. Actually, I went out to the local electronics store and bought monster cables for $10.99. I'm going to cut them up right now and make sure they have the positive/negative wires... i wasn't sure because they had some mono cables there.
I'll definately let you know. My specs manual says
Preout max output level/output impedance
2.2 V/1 kΩ
I have the same POP sound... did you fix it yet? Someone said it was due to bad grounding... and I know that I didn't do a great job or even tested a ground point... just sorta stuck it there. I gotta see if that helps.
Did you do anything to get rid of it?? I followed the same route you did with the RCA to preouts. Thanks!

I didn't keep it connected to the spliced RCAs. I just wired as if i didn't have BOSE. (speaker outs to speaker ins) The sound is not bad, however i do hear slight hissing at the lowest volumes and the volume is louder than regular. When i turn it to volume 1, its low but not a normal 1, then at 2 it increases a lot, and at 3, it would be pretty loud, 4 would be bumpin.. I hear wiring this way could blow the speakers easier, but i guess that would depend on the users carefullness when turning the volume up...

Don and others are convinced that I didnt' ground it properly... i am goin to take it apart in an hour and use a voltmeter to find a proper ground point. I'll get back to you in this thread to see if it works.
