looking to buy a system, need advice
i am a when it comes to this. i have a 98 maxima with the non-bose. i am looking to get a new headunit and speakers to add more bass and get a better sound quality. also, in time (or now if price is right), i want to add subs. im only 16, so i'm not looking to spend a whole lot on this, but i do have money. for the headunit, i am looking to one that will fit and also have compatible wires with the stock ones and speakers. with the speakers, i am looking for both front and rear. i've heard that alpine is a good direction to go in. am i going to need an amp or power source for any of this? any help is appreciated. thanks in advance.

Do your preliminary shopping on www.crutchfield.com but do not buy from them unless you can find a good deal (ie: closeout). They do offer free tech support via phone and a killer return policy though......
Start with a deck and 4 speakers. Then work your way up. Good decks are Panasonic, Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, Eclipse, etc... I'm sure there are more I am missing. I would stay away from Sony, Jensen, Audiovox and anything else that sucks.

do you know anyone that works at an electronics store (best buy, circuit city etc..), i have a buddy at best buy and just got everything for dang cheap (new rockford speakers, a kenwood mp3 deck, 2 12" sony subs, 2 rockford amps and a nice enclosure for around $600), usually employee discount is cost of item+5%, your car is looking good so far... and yes you will need at least a 4 channel amp for your speakers and then an amp for your subs plus an amp kit which runs around $45-60 depending on the quality of the wires

You don't NEED a 4 channel amp for the interiors.
These were my setup's over the past 2 years
Sound System 1) I had a Pioneer DEH-6500 with pioneer speakers (not bad) sounded all right for the time
Sound System 2) I added 2 12" subs with a 700 watt amp powering them. Too much bass
Sound System 3) Got rid of the Headunit and added Pioneer 6.5" DVD/TV. Cleaner sound
Sound System 4) Got 6.5" Eclipse Components with crossovers and an Eclipse 4 channel amp (800 watts) to power those and my rears.
My system is very clean and clear (SQ over SPL)
I would recommend for you a Nice headunit and maybe one 10" or 12" subs and a decent amp with nice wattage, no need to go outta control

Conrad - Thanks for the input. What do you think of the HU that GoldenGlory is selling? The pioneer 730. Price looks pretty good and I have read good reviews. What speakers would be best to go with if I purchased the 730?

Not trying to kill Will on the sale, I'm sure it's in excellent condition. But my personal preference is not to buy used audio goods. I also bought a couple of things off of Ebay, but the last thing I bought ( my amp ) we ( Pearl96max and I ) had some difficulty when installing it. Something wasn't right so therefore I haven't bought from Ebay nor used good since. I have bought all my stuff from Pearl96max since.
Here's a list of just about all the HU's that fit your car
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...&avf=Y&search=
They have all different types, brands for all different prices. Check it out.

I would be interested in hearing SONY's pound. I say its crap but never heard it to describe it (like the color, how much corn). I would rather know what it sounds like and complain than just complain my head off.
When I buy Ebay, I always keep it to VERY outdated stuff to give to friends that have nothing at all, or things with a NEW or WORKING guarantee. I always make a few contacts before a decent purchase + $50 just to make sure.

That's a good unit. Check out this guy's stuff. I get most of my stereo stuff from him. Great prices and service.

Pioneer DEH-P750MP - http://www.hookedontronics.com/show_...s.jsp?cid=4394
found for:$235.00
Infinity KAPPA 63.5I for rear - http://www.crutchfield.com/S-MC4VMVy....asp?i=108635I
found for: $99
Infinity Reference 6000cs for front - http://www.crutchfield.com/S-MC4VMVy...sp?i=1086000CS

What do you all think? Links are just for info, not where I am buying from.
EDIT: I hear I will need an amp for these speakers, so does anyone reccomend a certain amp? What will work best without going too expensive?

what's up
I happen to run those infinity 63.5i's in the rear. Sound very good in fact ironically they sound better than the Infinity 60.5cs's. The tweets on those are crap.
As for the fronts, check out
www.thezeb.com
and check out the ctd cl61a's. Those are a lot louder and clearer than those infinitys. Can't be beat for $150 and they run at 90w RMS.

amps, for an ok price some decent amps are Rockford Fosgate, Alpine, JBL probably. If you have more money, look at PPI, Hifonics, JL Audio, maybe Kicker.
I have a set of Kicker components (K65.2 i think) powered by Performance Teknique amp (ICBM 774) and they sound SWEET! My two Kicker CompVR subs are powered by ICBM 779 and those things BUMP! If you were to ask if PT was good, I'd say YES. That's personal experience.

K...found out how to order on thezeb...
What do you all think of the CDT Audio CL61a (http://www.cdtaudio.com/classic2000MidDriv.htm for reference) as my front speakers and the Infinity 63.5I (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-MC4VMVy....asp?i=108635I for reference) with the Pioneer 750 as a head unit (http://www.hookedontronics.com/show_...s.jsp?cid=4394)?
And does it matter that the CDT Audio speakers run at 90 watts rms and the Inifity run at 75 watts rms?

2. Kappas are supposed to be good. So i say go for it if you can find a good deal
3. I have an older version of pioneer 750, no complains so far, say go for it!
4. It's okay that they are different wattage. Are you gonna use an amp with these ( you should man, pioneer only give out about 25W RMS). Just tune the amp correctly and you'll be fine. Keep in mind not to give as much power to infinitis as you give to CDT.
#33
I would recommend something between 80 and 100W RMS per channel. Yes, four channel would be the best.
It's okay if you don't want the subs now, you can add them later. You'll need a separate amp for them anyway.

Let's see now. 2 speakers that are used in the front of any normal car and one sub in the trunk. I only count 3 channels. Are you using some new age math? Or do you really want the sound stage behind hte head of the driver? There is a big difference between doing it right and doing it completely wrong. The only reason for a 4 channel in a normal car setup is to biamp the front compontents.

But the setup is really up to R5a7B. All depends on person's preference.

I ordered the Pioneer 750 last night for $250 shipped and insured off ebay new. I'm still thinking about speakers and most likeley the 4-channel is my top choice for an amp, just not sure which one yet. Thanks for all who have replied. Anyone else with opinions/advice is welcome to post.
