Thoughts on getting speakers from ebay

I was lookin to get a set of JL Vr 6.5 componets for my front and coaxial for my rear. A nearby shop wanted 299 for the compnets and 169 for the coaxial but found on ebay for about 100 less for the set.

You guys have opinions on gettting speakers from ebay - this shop has treated me good so far just lookin to save some money. I know there'll be no warranty, but its not like its an amp with huge amount of parts. Horror stories anyone?

I got a bad crossover in a component set from ebay and had to buy another set of crossovers for like $20. It didn't turn out to be a terrible deal since I got the set for $70 instead of $180 retail, just a huge hassle. The seller never returned my calls, and since I had waited 30 days to install them it would be $30 bucks to return them.

If you're in Gainesville check out Sound Ideas up on 13th St. north of 23rd Ave (a mile past Sam's club). They do great work.

would never buy speakers or amps from ebay unless the person u r buying from is physically within reach. If you have a problem, manufacturers will not warranty (whoever says they will is 100% BS). But if ebayer is nearby and a ddealer, u can work something out with him if he's a good guy, otherwise, go retail or retailers that are willing to give great prices.

I always read the description twice, and make sure the seller has massive feedback, and guarantees the product to be new. Sometimes I buy used, but again I make sure the seller is reliable.

I have to agree with Dj Kontakt Check the individuals Feedback rating and read the description carefully before bidding. I have purchased a set of polk 4x6's and a pair of 12in polk's.

Yes read through the feedback first. I also like to email the user and see how long it takes for him/her to respond. I usually get a good idea of how responsive they are and this also tells me how responsive they will be to ship the item. I always like to verify that the item will be shipped UPS or FedEx this way there is a Gauranteed tracking number. Sellers like to ship USPS and then don't pay for the delivery confirmation giveing you know way to track your order. I have had great luck on ebay and these are the steps that I take and have great products and experiences to boot.

As for warranty I have had no issues getting items serviced that I purchased from ebay. Had to send in a few things recently and have had no issues dealing with the Manufacturer. Althought the seller I bought from did furnish a receipt when I bought the item. So I guess this is another thing to ask for an establsihed seller should be able to furnish some kind of receipt. Private sellers will not.

Hope this helps

EBAY is Great

So far I purchased Infinity Kappa 6.5 components that list for $299 everywhere I have seen them. I got them for $145 plus $20 for shipping, I also got Infinity Kappa 5.25 coax's for the rear for $65 and did not have to pay again for shipping since I got them from the same online seller.
I would just be sure to order from the online Ebay store folks like ikesound.com and or baystereo. They both answered any questions I had and could be reached via phone or internet.
I personally would stay away from the private sellers, at least the Ebay stores I listed above have a reputation to try and uphold.
