bench testing a radio

I have a bose cd/cassette sitting in my basement, but no wiring for it. I was wondering what the best way to bench test it would be. I was thinking just a power wire going into where the switched igition wire would go, and then a ground, both coming from the cigarette lighter?

That should work but you would also need to supply 12v to the constant power feed to the radio.

bench testing a radio

Hello, I have many nissan radios and I need to bench test them for output. I have a set of bose speakers and a power supply... I already know how to bench test power the radio and test the cd and tape functions but how do I go about testing them for output. I had a maxima that i've owned to test output but that car got totaled.

ps i know this is an old post but the site wouldnt allow me to create a new thread for whatever reason.

need to power up the ignition pin, constant pin, and ground the chassis. NO MORE THAN 12v, or you'll fry it (keep it between 12-14v, designed for car's power only)

take a speaker, wire it to the output pins. do a google search for metra 70-7550 and find the best pic you can of where the speaker pins are, go from there. Or if you have a maxima, line them up with the plug

If it is a Bose HU, then you need the Bose amp/amps as well to check the speakers from that HU. If just checking the HU itself - there will be no 'output', just signal.

Metra 70-7551 will make things simpler.

i used this diagram
ok so i hooked it up with aligator clips just to get a feel and its no output as you stated. so i have an 00 maxima thats sitting in my yard thats totaled..... do I need the amplifier and the 70-7551 harness or can I just buy the harness? i'm gonna go buy the harness at a stereo shop and I can take the amp out of my 00 maxima if need be.

Bose transmits Just a signal. Hence the reason for having external amps in the car. If you are getting any output it would be low - barely audible and distorted OR it is actually not a Bose HU.

you could use a plate amp or get the bose amps.
