I have a question about the clean custom installs you see on all the show cars. To make everything blend with your trunk like sweetsounds did, what do you use? Is that MDF or plywood or what? Also does that weigh a lot? I am very concious about weight. Thanks.

Well, usually it's a combo of MDF, HDF(if you can find High density), fiberglass, bondo, viyl, carpet, etc. But yes, the base for most installs is MDF. As far as weight goes, yes it can add trmendous amounts of weight depending on the size and complexity of the enclosures and trims.

MDF will weigh you down; if you want some lighter alternatives, look into fiberglass or - if you're really fanatical about weight and have the budget - carbon fiber.

Yup.. weight skyrockets when you start doing stuff in the trunk.. with all the equipment in there, my system weighs about 280-320lb.
the sub box weighs almost 100lb, and the amp rack weighs 80lb.... that's just wood, carpet, and plexiglass.
Add another 60lb for subs, 30lb of amps, and 20lb of wire (probably more. 2awg wire is HEAVY!!)

Drawbacks: slow acceleration.
benefits: the *** end sticks like glue in corners.
With only the system and sway bars, I could outhandle another 3rd gen with full suspension mods.

I'm planning on dumping the whole trunk soon though. I'll keep the amps, but I'm going to lose the subs, sealed box, and amprack.
it's gonna be purdy..
let's just say 4 12" subs, carbon fiber, kevlar, polished stainless steel, and aluminum.
