How hard to install alarm w/remote start?

Internetautomar's got a great GD going on remote starts and RS's with alarms. How difficult would it be to install one of these? So far I've heard about 2 hours to do the RS with keyless entry, but no quotes on the alarm with it.
As far as past electrical experience, I've done several partial stereo installs in my 2 other cars, and just did a full install and rewire on the Max over Thanksgiving. Plus, my dad used to do a whole bunch of electrical shtuff in high school and shortly after, so he'd probably be helping me...

Any ideas on how hard this is and how long it would take, or am I just insane for even contemplating it??

TIA

personally, I think it's easy to do. But then I did about 20 remote starts and/or alarms last month. What takes the longest is finding wires. Normally I tell customers avg alarms takes 4-6 hours, but on some cars it can take me 2 hours.

Typically an install on a thrid gen would take ME about an Hour. I also do these on a regular basis though. Like posted about the hardest or actually most time consuming part is finding the right wires. It shouldnt be too difficult for anyone with minimal experience in the field of auto electronics. If you need wiring info feel free to email/PM me.

So at the most, on a 3rd gen, it should take a day? Probably even less with two fairly knowledgeable car guys working on it?

Supa Lao> Is the 5th gen very difficult? I've done remote start on my old Prelude but I didn't have to go into the steering column. Now I'll have to go into the ignition to do the "wire-wrap" for the Immobilizer. Is the steering column work very difficult on these newer cars?

What brands are you installing the most?
I think I'm going with AutoCommand by DesignTech again.

TIA

I haven't done a 5th gen maxima. But using the immobilizer isn't that hard. I use them all the time in 2000+ honda's and they are really easy. All you have to do is put that wire loop around the key cylinder. Just take off the plastic around the steering column and that is. At my job, we only install Viper, Rattlers, and Audiovox. My favorite alarms to install would have to be the vipers.

Like posted above the bypass unit is not difficult. Also with about 80+ of them done the 5th gen maximas are not a problem to do, but then again I have done alot. More time consuming that a fourth gen, but overall fairly simple. You will have to remove the gauge cluster though.

I have to remove the gauge cluster??? Why?

I was hoping to get into the steering column to do the wire wrap and tie into the ignition wires underneath the dashboard somewhere.

Thats where the tach wire is located. You do not need to disconnect it, just pull it forward. Also it really isnt hard, just two screws and two clips.

ahh...well the AutoCommand uses tachless operation so I shouldn't have to go digging in there at all. Never hooked any tach wires up to the Prelude either.

Thats a relief. As long as I can get to the ignition switch fairly easily this car shouldn't be too bad then.

Thanks!

Could someone send me the wiring for a '96 I30/maxima, I think I am going to attempt this remote start thing , with the crimestopper rs-900,...

If anyone knows where a documented write up on installing a remote start is, for fourth gen's that would be a great help as well (tools needed & instructions)

Thanks
Frank
