How powerful of an amp do i need (i'm an audio newbie)

I'm interested in buying 1 12" kicker Solo-Baric L7 with 750 rms and 1500 peak, and i need to know how powerful of an amp should i get to run this sub. And also, any amp suggestions would be nice as well. Greatly appreciated.

Power is dependant on the enclosure and how loud you want it to be. It's like buying a porche and driving 55.

I want to get as much sound out of it as i can. Would a bridged Rockford Fosgate Punch 801X work? I can get a pretty good deal on one.

For subs a clas D mono is almost always, 99.9% of the time the best option.

I believe that particular RF amp only handles a 4ohm load when bridged.

I have a RF800A2 (same model just older) and it's powering 1 S12L7.
I was forced to buy a 2ohm DVC speaker and wire it as a 4ohm load to meet the specs for the amp. So you should be careful with the load rating of the amp.

My enclosure is small (about 1.5cf) and sealed and I'm VERY happy with the sound.

Good luck

Class D amp is your best bet. Have a look into the DEI (Directed Electronics) amps, they are decent quality, and you can pick them up on ebay at a reasonable price. Just be sure to match the impedence on the sub to that of an amp.

What's the difference between the 4 ohm voice coil l7 and 2 ohm voice coil l7 wiring wise? Would that affect what amp i could get?

4ohm l7 can be wired as 2ohm or 8 ohm
2 ohm l7 - as 1 ohm or 4 ohm

all depends on what way you wanna got and what amp you're trying to get

Well the amp in discussion puts out 100X4 rms and 400X 2 bridged. I what you said about the speakers handling 750 rms is correct you may want to go with a mono amp. If you like RF try the 1500bd series
