need help wiht amp install

ok im puttin an 800w kenwood amp in the max, its a 92 gxe. im very very confused about this install. so far, i have established that i need to run a power cable from my batt, throught the firewall under the carpet, under the back seat and up to the amp. and i also have to run an rca cable from the hu, on the other side of the car in the smae fashion. now what am i forgetting??

is it ok to mount the amp on the box, or should i fasten it down elsewhere. also i was gonna ground the wire besides the spare tire, is this ok.

im really new to this, i only just figured out how to replace my speakers

(and im tooo poor to afford install)

u can ground it on the rear strut tower, just scrape off the paint under the bolt. you also have to run a remote wire from the headunit back to the amp.

i actually dont have to do that, coz my bose is still half hooked up, i still have power coming to the back amps. what about line level control, the amp has this built in, but where do i cut the wire in, if i even have to do that.

thanks

ok, so it took me 6 hours 20 minutes, but i did it. i trouble with the power cable, it was a little too short, but i went to a welders supply store and got some 4 gauge and now it works great. ive never done it before and i am really impressed with the way it sounds, no fuzz or anything. now all i need to do is dynomat/xorb the trunk so it doesnt rattle anymore

thanks for the help

I didn't run my power cable through the firewall and under the carpet, I ran it under the car along the brake/fuel lines under the plastic shield..I used extra heavy duty Forney 4 ga welder cable, and protected exposed sections with reinforced garden hose..I ran my remote wire down the right side, my RCA cables and the wire for the rear speakers down the left side..

It should be ok to mount your amp on the box, as long as you don't do it with a Legacy amp..thats one of the things that caused mine to fry..but a kenwood is a tank of an amp, so you should be fine mounting it on the box..if you can find them though, you may want to stick rubber feet between the amp and box..

thats a damn good idea with the garden hose. i was thinking about that stuff that they use for the wires in the engine bay. yeah, i got a purdy sweet deal on that setuo though, alone the amp is 2 bills, and each of the subs is 1 bil, i got it for 200, plus i got the box for 30 when it shoulda been 90. and the wiring kit shoulda been 99.99 but i got it for like 45. i love employee discounts

Since you're running so much power (i.e., 800 watts, I would recommend a 1 farad or at least a .5 farad capacitor as well. It will keep your headlights from dimming and you'll get better sound.

I ran a 1200 watt amp in my '92 GXE with no cap..and I will be again here soon..monday or tuesday..but I have an auxillary battery in the trunk now, so I doubt I'm going to have dimming issues..I might get three 1F caps for REALLY good coverage though..
