Sony?

What do you guys think of Sony Xplode subs.

Specifically the Sony XplodŽ 12-Inch 1200-Watt Subwoofer.

If you've had any experience with any Sony subs, input greatly apreciated.

I heard Sony subs before, and they sound like sh*t, a lot of distortion and real muddy bass.
I would personally stay away from any Sony car audio products.
Sony concentrates too much on the pretty red appearance and not enough on sound quality,

I'm very new to car audio so I probably sound silly, but..

Are 2 Infinity 12's and a kenwood amp a decent starter kit for a newb. What would you suggest for a beggener to start with?

if you going with infinity subs go with kappas or perfect series (even the infinity refrence is better then sony subs)

if you going to get kenwood amp get the excellon series, they are a bit more then regular kenwoods, but they sound 1000 times better

Yeah, I would agree. I would stay away from sony car audio products. I think they've gone down in quality. I don't know if they still make them, but the ES series is pretty good.

I have a kenwood excellon amp. Good stuff! It's 5 channels and runs my coaxials and sub. You may also want to check out JL audio subs.

The infinity subs are way better than the sony subs. The reference are cheapest but they are decent. Give it about 250 watts rms and you should be fine.

Well put it this way, if its all hooked up right then the Sony subs will sound great. My buddy has 2 lower model Xplods from last years models and has 100watts into each sub and they both sound outstanding, and they hit hard as well.

I agree with everyone steer clear of sony car audio, and from personal experience with infinity subs and a kenwood amp i say hell yeah. I have 2 12inch infinity reference w/ 1220 watts and an amp with 800 watts, nothing real fancy but it does sound great and kenwood amps are great and realiable unlike them sony ones that are only good for like a year then cr@p out on you. I have also heard really good comments on rockford also if u want other options to think about.

I sold a pair of sony 12" subs for $50, and considered myself lucky to get that..only slightly used by me..They distorted pretty bad no matter how much or how little power you ran or what imp. you had them bridged to, and they would beat out of control in anything but a tiny sealed box..I agree with the general opinion saying sony car audio sucks..I like my 10" pioneer TS-255C subs though..I like them a LOT..they pound REALLY low..

Let me add my 2 cents and agree with the majority. Sony car audio sucks. On top of that, they never made any good speakers, even for home.
