I have a MTX Thunder 250D amp. When I turn off my head unit my amp power lamp is still on. Even when I turn my ignition off the amp still appears to be powered on, I am actually pretty sure it is still on because at times it has drain my battery and I had to get a jump. Now I just disconnect and reconnect the remote wire for a second and then it goes off. Is my amp malfunctioning, it is only a couple of months old and it has done this since the day I purchased it or is this the Smart Engage stuff working or not working properly??

So your MTX amp is not working right? That's a common problem that MTX has been having with their amps not turning off. I would check you remote turn on wire with a voltmeter to make sure that it is working properly. If it is than take the amp back to the place you purchased it and see what they can do. Good Luck!

i have a thunder 1000d which is the big daddy of your amp. here is what probably causing the so called problem. the amp has internal capacitors. i noticed that if i turn it off the red light stays lit for as long as 5-10 minutes or more. it is not a defect, its simply light being powered from the ebergy that is still left inside the amp. but the amp is actually off. turn off your stereo, and come back in 10-15 minutes to see if the light is still on. probably it will be off. if not then you got a problem. post your results on here. hope this helps, Anton

If you disconnected the remote wire to turn it off, then the problem is with the remote wire or whatever is sending the signal, not the amp.

Okay,

I added a second amp last weekend to run my tweeters and mids so I rewired my trunk area, I am using the same remote wire as before and I am running it and the remote wire for my second amp to the remote connector on my crossover, now the amp goes off immediately when I power my headunit or ignition off. Also changed headunits!!! Everything seems to work fine now...Thanks to everybody for the input...
