How to run wires on new install (2003 Max) ?
Hello,
I need help on the best way to run the wires on new installation of aftermarket HU.
I am planning to install an amp for components in the trunk along with a Basslink.
My plan is to run power and remote turn on wires on the driver side, RCA cables on the passenger side.
What is the best way to run the wire to the components in the front door from the amp in the back? Do you run the passenger side speaker wires along the passenger side and the driver side speaker wire along the driver side or do you run all speaker wires on the passenger side of the car?
Any other tips on best ways/challenges when running wires would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
The biggest challenge will be running the new speaker wires from the cabin of the car into the doors. You will hear some guys say you can simply run new speaker wire in through the gromet on the door frame, but this is a hard-wired harness that you cannot just snake a new wire through. In regards to running the speaker wires down their respective side of the car. Best to remember to keep the speaker wires away from the RCA cables and keep both away from the power lead that you run. Other than those, you should be ok if you have either seen or participated in installing this type of equipment in the past. Good luck and let us know how it turns out for you. And welcome to the .org.

Thanks Tim,
If I need to keep RCA and speakers away from power, this seems to imply power down one side of the car and RCA/Speakers down the other side.
Is this how most people have done this?
What do they do with the remote turn on cables? Do they run them along with the power cable or the other side?

yep, just run your speaker wires down one side of your car, and power on the opposite side. this will prevent any unwanted noises. as for the remote turn on, i don't think it matters which side it goes on but i ran it with my power lines.

Yeah, this should work in most cases. Like Fosgate Fan stated, you should be ok running the remote turn-on lead on either side of the car. Keep us posted.

Pre-existing Wires
You can do that. Also, instead of running new speaker wire to all 4 doors, pull the plug out of the stock amp and tie the speaker wires from the new amp into the pre-exisiting wires. They are pretty good quality and it will keep you from drilling through the doors.
