Hooking up subs in ur room??
Hooking up subs in ur room??
i have some friends that did this. they hooked up their car subs to the radio inside their rooms for a little more bump. I was going to do this but i dont really know how. SO i figured i ask. Does anyone know how to hook up subs in the room. I think u use the DC convertor thing and like wire up the amp to it somehow. But have no clue. THanks
If you really want to hook up subs in your room, you really should buy a home theater sub amp or a full range home amp. It will actually be cheaper then buying a AC/DC converter big enough for a car amp. What kind of stereo are you using?
Actually AC/DC convertors really arent that expensive to get, although depending on the amp your using. I use my for bench testing of course, but at the same time I have a PG amp running a Planet Audio 12 running in my garage. Just for fun of course...

I don't know where your looking but I find Ac/DC converters running over $200 for a 40 amp converter. Plus the cost of the amp. So figure on well over $400 for a 200-400 watts rms setup. OR you can get a plate sub amp from parts express, where for $385 you can get 1000Watts Rms (you can get 250 Watt amp for under $130). I know what I would choose...

Also I have a 50amp and a 90amp, neither of which even get used, as there isnt much of a need for them.

my friend has a 10 inch car sub in his room connected to his stereo. it's an old 8 ohm MTX sub, powered by the right channel of his receiver. sound pretty good, and it's been working for 2 years now.
well i have one rockford sub 12 inch and a 300 watt amp. i dont have a system yet in my room since i am debating on what to buy so the sub will work with that system. I found a theater system for about 500 bucks with a DVD, and it has two audio inputs, where in one of them i would like to hook up a turntable and the other i guess an amp. Would that work with a surround sound?? It already has a sub but i want more. I mean how do wire it up to the convertor?? Thanks for the replies.
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...=0&cc=01&avf=N this is the site for the system that i was looking at to buy. Will this work?

I don't recommend based on your desire to have lifelike bass levels and the fact the amp will unlikely be able to drive your car sub. You want a home receiver with a sub level pre-out. Use the RCA to connect to a plate amp that will power the sub. Make sure you get a plate amp that can drive the load of your sub or subs. Most plate amps are optimized for a 4 ohm load.
ohhhh ic. so basically i have to buy the receiver then buy speakers for the receiver and than i can hook up my car subs to it. WHat do u mean plate amp. Is that in the receiver? SO i wont have to use my car amp but the amp from the receiver?

A plate amp is an amp that can mount directly to a home or DJ speaker cabinet. The sub style plate amps have built in crossovers and some have other features built in. They are explained and have prices if you cut and paste the links into your browser. Most can be hooked up with just an RCA cable from your home receivers LFE or Sub pre-out. And most can give better performance than typical home subs.

This can also be done if you just are able to wire the sub to make an 8ohm load and it's crossed over.
If you wanna go really ghetto about it, go to Radio Shack and buy a simple outboard xover and wire the speaker to show the 8ohm load. The outboard xover is really a filter (which robs power btw) and the stereo won't know the difference of the speaker if it's an 8ohm load.
I did this for my dad when I connected my ultra old school Kicker sub box to his sub-out speaker output. Not very clean bass, but bass. It's ghetto, but it worked.
I bought him a mac daddy surround sound now, btw.

Im not sure 1 of yaz said this, didnt understand some of your posts.
but the best way is to buy a powered home theater subwoofler box with an 8'' or a 10'' and take out the 8'' or 10'' sub, and connect your CAr sub to the wires u disconnected, and you'll have knock in your room.
My Home set up is a Cerwin-vega AVS-Sub8 with 1 JL 12'' w3v2 connected to it,
Never had a problem with it yet.
Also opening your home theater sub will void its warranty.
Hope this helps
