Help, Sub/Amp is not getting power!

I came upon a older system for free, that worked fine and sounded nice, 600 watt amp and 1 10" 300watt sub, all made by pyramid. So I went to install it in my 97 max figuring it would be pretty simple. Everything to the best of my knowledge is wired fine, but its not working at all, no lights on amp, no bass. I did the RCA wiring adaptor thing myself, matching it up with the pos/neg rear speaker wires at the headunit (stock, no bose). At first i thought that was my problem but i've checked that and re done those wires at least 5 times thinking that there is something wrong there, but im guessing it has to do with power, because there is none. Is there a way to tell if their is power in the 8 guage power wire? That is the only other thing i can think of that could be wrong..
Help Me!!
Thanks
