03 Max - Installing Radio and EQ

Alrighty

Did a little searching and looking but couldn't find anything to the tune of what I was lookin for so here it is. I have a Kenwood Deck and Digitial EQ both a full DIN that I would like to install but the dash trim / bezel is part of the radio.

What have you 02 / 03 or 5th gen owners for that matter been using to frame in your units?

I was talking with Studman about this for awhile but I haven't been able to get in contact with him. Last I heard from him was that he was going to use a 2000 GXE dash trim / bezel. He was going to send me pics but never heard back.

If anyone has info / pics that they can share that would be great. Kinda in the dark here.

I saw that stud man was posting in Audio forum lately. Any pics of the bezel you used from the 2000 GXE? Anyone else had this problem in the 5th gen when trying to install 2 1 DIN units? What was your remedy?

Scosche makes a double DIN but it is kind of wack, gotta drill holes. The GXE is your best bet and best looking, too.

(The pocket is a separate piece, you can leave it out to put a second DIN unit).

Contact David Burnette (daveb@adpub.com) at South Point Nissan (or call him at 888-254-6060) for the 2000 "GXE Ventilator" dash trim; well worth the price. Also, don't forget to tell him you don't need the pocket, save a few bucks.

Sweet thanks for the pics and the info. I have been trying to locate this stuff for some time now. All the stereo shops around here have no clue. At first they tried to tell me that there wasn't a mounitng kit available at all.

Anywho. Thanks for the pics and info. Do you know how much the dash piece is ?? I will give him a call to find out if you don't remember. Nice deck by the way

It's a pricey little piece of plastic. It was just over $100 for the whole thing, but like I said you can save some cash by not getting the pocket. Trust me though, it's worth it. I had all 3 dash trims before: Crutchfield single DIN black, Scosche color-matched double DIN, and now this one. By far the best. And how can you get a better match than from a Nissan part? You can't. The other two peices made the car feel ghetto - you know like that old beater you had which came with only a FM radio and you threw in your first CD car stereo. Looked ghetto like that, lol.

I took pictures, but I can't get into my home PC right now to get them. I will get them uploaded tonight.

I have a Kenwood HU and the EQ as well. I've had all 3 kits available:
1) The Metra kit is black and is only a single din.
2) The Scosche kit is flimsy and doesn't match the dash color, although it is grey.
3) The Nissan 2000 GXE trim is expensive, but looks the best.

I will get all my pictures online tonight. I'm re-designing my web-site, so I'll definitely get them up asap.

Is the "GXE Ventilator" a custom piece or a stock part for a 2000 GXE. Is calling Dave the best way to get a hold of him. I tried email and got no response.

All of us guys who have two Din units like Studman and others (with GXE trim) need to get someone to make us a double ISO trim ring for our units. I have an Alpine CVA-1006 and 5205 DVD player, but don't like the way the trim rings make it look like two pieces. Someome about a month ago had this done, but I can't find the pics from the post. I'm going to have mine done soon as soon as I finish the new sub enclosure.

Does that mean that you will be getting rid of you "gxe Ventilator"? What is the dimension of the hole for the double din? The Head unit and the indash changer i have are of a non standard size.

No, the trim ring would go under the "GXE" trim piece.

It's a stock part from Nissan. Call Dave Burnette at South Point Nissan at 888.254.6060 to order it.

ssmithmax03: I was thinking the same thing. I've got some time coming up in the next few weeks. I'm gonna look into doing something like that soon.

Studman,
PM'd you earlier about what I'm doing. There is a company in Houston that I have spoke to that can machine it (trim) out of aluminum to whatever thickness I want to whatever specs I give them. They can then anodize it to the color I prefer. Thinking of going this route. I have the ISO foam trim rings on my Alpine's now and the aluminum piece would compress against these for a tight fit against the "GXE trim". I also recessed both Units an 1/8" (drilled new mounting holes) so they wouldn't stick out so far. Looks a lot better. I'll keep you posted.
This piece (aluminum) could be something everyone with the "GXE trim" could use. I wish I could find the picture of the guy who posted about a month ago who had this done with ABS plastic, it lokked good.

ssmithmax03: Get me some pics of your current setup when you can. Zip them and e-mail them to me if you don't have them online somewhere.

Will do. My wife is going to take some pics for me tomorrow. Just finished the back package shelf today. Starting on the new sub enclosure. Everything is turning out fantastic. I was able to mount my JL audio 500/5 and 250/1 under the back deck and the cap and fuse block are recessed in the middle of the top of the back deck. THe factory Bse grill snaps over it all. I centered the Bose grill and redid the shelf in black felt. Looks a lot better.
