Install jobs at AudioExpress
I will be purchasing the Viper 791XV remote start pager alarm system for my maxima. AudioExpress sells them, and the guy there knows Alex @ Southwest so he gave me the deal of $300 for the alarm with install. This is a pretty good price, but how are installs at Audioexpress? I do not want my car to get messed up there. Has anyone had anything installed there? Good/Bad experience? My dad knows the VP of the company so I may talk to him about what I'm thinking about doing, I just don't trust AudioExpress very much. Give me your imput please!

I've had them do one Viper install and it was a quick and dirty install. IMO...now I'd rather pay someone like Circuit City to install it for the money. They take their time and do a clean install from what I've seen. Of course it costs more then $1 though. They also actually attempt to hide the alarm brain module, which is what the theif will be looking for. The Audio Express isn't really hidden or located in a difficult possition IMO.
Check the firewall after they punch through. On my Sentra they made a HUGE hole(can actually feel air hitting your legs as you drive) and they left the metal burred with NO grommet to protect the wires from chaffing. Clean up the burrs and silicone shut the hole or find a proper sized grommet. Also, pick/show them a location for your override switch, since they'll just pop it in the easiest place possible, ie plain sight.
What features are you getting?

I wouldn't buy or get anything installed there. The type of setup that they tried to sell me I would not have been happy with. I also hear that they dont solder their connections, they just crimp and tape. Also they charge $1 per connection!

I haven't seen ANY shops that sodder. All use butt/crimp connectors for consistent and faster install. Although, I wouldn't be concerned with butt/crimp connectors.
In the 3+yrs. I've had the alarm, I've never had a problem so I guess their $1 install works. It's just a butcher job from what I saw and I'd rather pay to have someone take their time. I've seen a few stereo installs from Circuit City and they looked clean. I'm ASSuming the alarm will be the same.
