Custom fitting 6x9 on rear deck Anyone done this yet?

Well i've already taken out the bose speakers and replaced them with 6 1/2 polk audio speakers. I've got a 12 inch kenwood sub already (and i've ordered a WAY better audiobahn sub) so i think my setup sounds pretty good... The other day though i was in my friends 626 and he was playing music, and it sounded WAY better than mine aside from the fact he didn't have a subwoofer. So i asked him what setup he had and i couldn't believe it, he had just stock 6 1/2's up front and 6x9's in the back.... So i knew right away that i wanted some 6x9's myself...i had though about it before cause i know they sound WAY better and most cars come with them anyway... Well that aside since i ordered 6x9's already i wanted to know if anyone did the custom fit themselves in our maxima's? and if so how hard was it and did it come out well? I checked with a shop and they said it would be 80 bucks with i think its kinda steep, and i'm pretty sure its not so hard but i wanted it to come out right...

So Anyone done it? If so how easy? And even though i'm doing it either way did you like the difference and think it was worth it?

I have heard of it being done in other cars that didnt come with 6x9's stock. I havent heard anybody with Maxs do it. My homeboy who does that kinda thing said he would have to cut that "board" thingy back there, but he said he could do it.

If u still have the stock bose radio then that is your problem. The 6 1/2's from factory had an amp on them so if u took the spkrs out with amp then crappy sound. Best thing is replace the radio or get an amp for your rear spkrs. The bose radio is only a preamp. Also different kind of car different acoustics.
I trashed my bose system and replaced everything and cut out my rear deck and put in 8" free air subs back there and moved the rear 6 1/2 to the rear doors. No box equals more junk in the trunk.

People are crazy about 6x9's...my 6.5's sound prety good and have enough punch for me...

I bet you could do it pretty easily...you'd just have to cut a hole big enough in the rear deck.

I did it in my old car (95 Civic). It was really easy - I just removed the oem 6.5's, traced the template onto the underside of the rear deck with a sharpie, cut the hole with an airsaw, and bottom mounted the 6x9's. the whole job took me about 1/2 hour. i'm sure there's enough room on the rear deck in a maxima for 6x9's.

I put in some Infinity 6X9s, They are very nice, the sound is amazing even with my stock head unit. I'd say to go for the mod.

I'm lucky I got these pics cause now i'm tinted and can't see the speakers through the window at all.

Good luck, and if you need help I have like 10 more pics of my install.

you have a 97, u have 6.5s in there. the 2k-2k3s dont come with any speakers back there...

However i did put them in there in my 2k2...
i dont have the best pics but heres 2

theres other pics at my website u can check out

if u can get through the sheet metal w/o a prob, go for it. Youll need a high spinning drill, most likely air powered.

Sounds a lot better, more of a "full" sound. Before it sounded like there was only sound from the front components, now its surround. so its nice..
