Install aftermarket remote entry?

I was wondering if it's possible to install remote entry to my 97 Maxima? It didn't come stock with remote entry, but does have the alarm, and from what I've read, installing the stock remote entry is not worth the bother (is this true?). Will I be able to do it my self, or will I need to take it to a professional to do?

I had practically no electrical experience, and I did it. It took a lot more time than it would for someone who knows what they're doing, but pretty much you just have to buy the kit and then find the right wires and splice into them. I got everything I needed for $90, and I thought it was worth it. If you don't want to spend the time, and you're not willing to risk messing it up, then go for it.

Do you know where I can find what wires I need to tap into?

I'm thinking about doing this at some point in the up-comming autumn (March-April-ish), and would like to try attempt it my self first, and go to an expert if I get really lost, heh.

I'm glad I did it...as long as you're looking at it as a project to learn from and do yourself, not just to save some money...because it could easily take long enough to make it worth it to just pay someone. Here's the diagram I used. I also bought a trunk solenoid and so mine pops my trunk. I just found a wires that was prewired between empty harnesses in my driver kick to carry the trunk release signal to the trunk, rather than running wires back there. Let me know if you have any questions, but as I said I only did mine so other people will probably know better. Good luck.

Notes:
*1 Requires a double pulse. *2 The BCM (body control module) is located just below the radio. *3 Must use a relay to interface with this circuit. *4 A single negative pulse to the unlock wire will disarm without unlocking. *5 The ECM is located in the front of the center console on the transmission hump. The wiring is easily reached by removing the small black panel just to the front of the center console on the passenger side. the wire is in the middle row, 7th one in from the left. *6 The ignition harness wires change color at a plug. The above listed colors show both sides of the plug.

Thanks . Yeah, I'd be doing it for the learning experiance and that satisfaction of being able to say "I did that". All I have to hope is that the wiring colours are the same in my NZ Max

What system did you use?

NZ = New Zealand? Hmmm. I have no clue if they're the same color. Anyone else know? I bought the Omega Research K9 6ATV2 system. I have no idea if it's good quality or not, but the price was right. I got it on ebay from Basstronics, but I wouldn't recommend going with them. He gave me a lot of free tech support which helped, but he kept not shipping until after he told me he would. Actually, he sent me the wrong valet switch (which is needed to program the thing), and hasn't sent me the right one yet...I'm about to turn him in to Ebay, because he's not returning my phone calls or emails anymore. It's just the wrong plug, so it'll be easy to find the right one. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend buying from him.

yeah, NZ=New Zealand Our Maxima's are based on the I30 and the Cefiro, so if they vary from the US Maxima, then it's possible that my Max will too. I guess I'll find out soon enough, lol.

Thanks for the advice, I'll make sure I steer clear of that guy

He finally returned my email...he's been in the hospital the last 2 weeks because he got electrocuted while working with some capacitors. But he's back in business and I should get the right part soon...so I'm not turning him in. So forget what I said...as long as you don't mind waiting around and putting up with a little bs, he's got good tech support and good prices. Dont' know what shipping to NZ is though.
