bose factory unit screws

omG, i am having the most troulbe unscrewing the original bose stereo from its bracket. Its like they are bolted on or something. I tried everything, broke a screwdriver, used a power driver, used a power drill with a screwdriver bit, nothing is working. Is there an easier way to do this and im just looking it over, or is my unit really stuck in there. Would nissan do this for me, or ne other installation place?? thanks in advance

I just did the same thing yesterday. I've never been more frustrated in my life. I was able to get 4 off using a screw driver, 2 off with a power drill, but the other 2 would not budge. I even have an 18V drill set to the maximum torque, and they didn't budge. Eventually stripped both of them using an impact driver. Even though the CD player doesn't work and the tape deck thinks it always has a tape in it (and thus constantly autoreverses for the first minute I have the car on), I had planned on salvaging the BOSE HU and maybe selling it to a place online that I saw advertising that they'd buy em (I bought a new Alpine HU).

But instead, I got ****ed off, and literally tore the BOSE HU apart trying to get the screws off. I eventually smashed the side of the BOSE HU off of its casing, and then hammered the screws from the back. I was then able to get a wrench around the head and twist them out.

I highly recommend beating the **** out of the BOSE HU. Its quite satisfying.

I drilled them out. You can also buy new brackets.

haha iknow what you guys mean. Just get a screwdriver that uses bits... and make sure you use the one that FITS PERFECT. I stripped one of my bolts... and it was pretty bad. But then, I used every bit possible and was able to get a tight enough hold to unscrew it.

wow. im glad im not the only one. we lost a few bits and a screwdriver trying to take mine out. i thought it was impossible. we ended up drilling through the screws with a huge bit. took awhile but it worked. what a pain in the ***. and the screws are so small.

Work smart and not hard
Impact screwdriver. You can get it at Sears.

I don't recommend an impact screwdriver for this type of thing. You have to hammer the driver into the screw, and many of the screw locations on the bose casing are not ideal for smashing (most are just attached to the outer casing, and the casing can be bent easily to the point where the screw bottom starts smashing into circuit boards).

Of course, if you plan on abandoning the BOSE unit, smash away...
