Head unit for 4th gen Maxima?

Advise needed.

I am looking for an after market Radio/CD/MP3 to replace my stock Radio/Cassette unit. I have the following requirements:

1) Support for the OEM FM diversity antenna.

2) Ease of installation, no modification to the dash, preferrably making use of the OEM harnesses.

3) Reasonably priced up to $200.

Have you been successful at installing such a unit? If so, please give the brand and model number of it.

Many thanks,
Sam

There is nothing that uses the OEM harness, you'd have to get another harness which means..no cutting into the OEM stuff.

I think with the right adaptor...pretty much any HU works with the OEM antenna.

Now for radio/HU of choice...I'm a fan of Alpine, but that is all up to you...go to a store and listen to them, look at features, then make your decision.

good luck

Thanks nupe500 for the input.

Do you mean that I can still use the diversity (dual) antenna of the Maxima? That is,

1) both the mast antenna as well as the wire antenna depending on which is stronger?

2) the mast power antenna still work correctly, meaning that it will only come up when using the radio, and will retract itself at all other time?

ik on my HU (which by the way is a Pioneer 750MP that i love) i bought a antenna adapter. Now the antenna comes on whenever there is power to the radio. The antenna goes down when i turn off the antenna. It was easy to install, 11$ adapter from circuit city just plug it right in from the stock player.

Out of the harness that come w/ your radio. It should have a blue wire(power antenna) Just make sure you hook that wire up to the blue wire(not blue/white, b/c that's your amp turn on) w/ the harness that you bought. ex. metra part number 70-7550

The answer to you real question is no absolutely not, for the use of the diversity antenna. The adapter only uses one antenna, not both. I don't believe there has been an aftermarket radio with a diversity connection on the radio since 1998. Get over it and get satellite radio from XM or Sirius. I haven't listened to fm since last April.

I bought a Kenwood KDC-MPV622 from Crutchfield for $199 while it was on sale (might still be) and would do it again in a heartbeat..its so clean sounding its frightening..it also has separate power antenna and amp turn on leads, which my old Pioneer unit didn't..as for using OEM wiring, you can buy an adaptor which you wire to the new radio's harness, then it just plugs into your factory harness..there are installation kits sold (crutchfield includes them free if they're needed) for most vehicles..no modification to the dash required, its all plug and play, if you don't want to use better speaker wires and such..

IMO satellite radio is the biggest waste of money in the car audio market short of putting an 8 track tape player in a new car...

Does any one know if any factory nissan head units with mp3 disc capalbilities will fit an a 4th gen max with the bose system? I am satisfied with the sound of the factory stuff, but would love to have an mp3 head unit, dont care for fm modulated add ons, usually sound like crap.. Any feedback would be terrific! Thx!!
