Adding alarm to keyless entry

Here's a general question: When adding an aftermarket alarm to a car that already has keyless entry, what does that entail? My dad doesn't care about the alarm, just wants the 15% insurance discount that comes with a starter-disable alarm. I installed a full alarm/keyless entry/trunk in my Max, and I assume this'll be a lot easier. Can you set it up to use the factory remote? Thanks.

Yes you can use the factory remote, but an aftermarket remote would be ideal for range. Also the 15% is extremely minimal, works out to be about $30 a year if that.

My dad and I pay about $1100/year apiece, so the 15% would be over $160. For a $40 ebay alarm system I think that's well worth it.

I guess it depends a lot on the company. They all have different requirements, but it's worth giving yours a call!

Actually thats incorrect and very decieving on the part of Insurance companies. The discount only applies to the theft portion of your policy. In which case is the extra (approx) $200yr that you pay within your full amount. 15% of $200 works out to be $30.

Hmmm. She gave me a quote of $81 and change per 6 months. I need to have a talk with her then, eh?
