System Help

I have a system in a '95 max, but my lights dim like crazy with a 600 watt amp on 2 10" kenwoods. I think my gound is pretty weak and may be the problem, my question is for those that have system in their maxima, where to do you ground your amp? Has anything ever happened to your starter as a result of a system? thanks a lot. long live the max

I grounded mine to a bolt on the truck floor (under the carpet). I don't dim with a 460w amp.

take a wire wheel to the paint around the bolt you are using for a ground -- that way the ground gets more metal and less paint.

You might also try using a capacitor. Mine dims a little bit, but I don't feel like forking over the $$$ for a cap right now.

you can always grab a cheap voodoo 2.4farad cap off ebay for under $100. doesnt always do what it says, but at 4x what you need, it should be more than enough. your amps will like that 24v surge too.

right now i have 2 500w amps running off 8awg power wire and both on a common ground with no cap and still no dimming whatsoever. i plan to run 1/0 wire to a 4awg distrobution block when i get my new 400w 4ch. also what awg wire are you using? make sure you use at least 8awg for your 600w system, but 4 is best.

thanks for a tips, i have 8 awg monster cable wiring and a .5 farad RF cap. My starter seemed to lose its juice after a few days of having the subs on. I also have a 120 amp alternator so I dunno, I'll give those other ground spots a whirl, thanks a lot everyone

have you had your alternator and your battery tested? my battery went bad a few months ago. just couldn't hold a charge. the lights would go dim even with nothing running but the lights and i had to jump it a few times. that could very well be your problem. everywhere will test your battery for free and many places will test the alt for free too. definately check these out. sounds like it could be the problem.
