I have an Alpine 9807, which I think is their entry level MP3 player. It cost me like $250 with free install and that was last summer.

If you stick with Kenwood, Alpine or Eclipse, even their entry level MP3 players are solid. Mine has seperate sub controls, 4v pre out, ability to shut off HU power if you run amps, XM compatible, etc.

There is an Eclipse HU at about the same price (3413?) and that one is very nice (for the money) too. I had to flip a coin on that one. I think the Eclipse might be a little better.

I took the Alpine, though, because it has a removable face. Too many cranksters in my town will try to jack your stereo -- they have no idea about the eclipse ESN. Since I don't want to shell out a bunch of money for broken glass and/or broken locks and torn up dash parts, I went with the faceless one.

check out the panasonics too. i've got the 883, with 5V front/rear pre-outs, sub-out, aux-in, sirius satellite ready, changer control, and all that business. you can get it for around $180-$190, i think. they have ghostface ones too, all black and no buttons... the face is touch-sensitive and it changes colors

Get a JVC off of ebay for like 150 shipped. I have one (not the mp3 sadly). It rocks the system with 4v pre-outs, a separate sub-woofer pre-out, in-deck subwoofer controls, 50watts max and 19watts RMS. It's awesome!!!!!
